Tactical flashlight on AR

Personally I wouldn't go with the X300 on a shoulder weapon. I spoke to a Surefire rep and he said that they are actually redesigning the X300 tailcap system because they are breaking when used on a shoulder weapon. The mounting system for the X300 is also plastic and can vibrate off when shooting. If you're looking at an LED light check out the Surefire Scout. Its lightweight and 10 lumens higher then the X300 at 120 lumens

1) This is most likely in reference to the tape switch backplate, the XT07.
2) What? If this worries you (I've never heard of it - it certainly isn't an issue on any handguns, which recoil more fiercely than a 5.56 rifle), either go Larue on the mount or use the locking mount included with the X300.

G2L + clickie tailcap with Larue offset mount. It just works.

+1 to what AcrashB said

However I have one on my course gun and will let you know how things go.

The more I think about it, the more I like the idea of the Larue mount. For now though I will simple go with the stock mount.

While you make a valid point about lumens out put, I prefer the smaller foot print of the X300

Go with Surefire! I use the M952xm07 on two of my AR`S. They are simply the best on the market. I also run a M500A dedicated fore end on another as well as the M900A vertical grip/light.

:bsFlag: Worked fine overseas and I wasn't gentle with it. I do agree the mounting system is lame but for the first 4 months it did it's job until the LaRue arrived.

I used this exact set up overseas. Works great! The only thing was my little battery cap retaining clip thingy went missing and I replaced the junky plastic mounting system with the LaRue one....which is awesome.

You got lucky, on my roto they didn't allow us to use any mods on our weapons:canadaFlag:

Here's a couple photos of my MRP with Scout light at 12 O'clock...

Prior to trying this one, I had been using an X300 at 12 O'clock, but I have found that running the Scout in this position has several advantages over the x300:

- don't have to remove the light in order to change batteries
- MUCH less prone to light ND's than the toggles on the X300
- switch is well protected, no need for a lockout switch, probably the biggest downside to the X300
- slimmer (doesn't get in the way of the IR illuminator and cause reflection like the X300 does to my ATILLA)
- no need for tape switches
- no worries about storing in a case and having the light illuminate due to pressure from the case

And, like the X300, it's totally ambidextrous, compact, lightweight, durable, better around corners and obstacles than lights mounted at 3/6/9.

I grip the forend out front and simply rotate my support thumb up and push the activation button ahead of the front sight. Works like a charm.

If there is a downside, it's that you cannot use a Larue mount for the Scout light as it puts the light too high and blocks the front sight.
