Tactical/Modded SKS Picture Thread (can we sticky this?)

With the LAR stick mags and Magwedge mag connector. Almost ready to try out - fitting's done, but the tab at the front of the adaptor broke, so just have to get a replacement tab from Magwedge.

That's one little design shortcoming, where the inside radius from the main block to the flag of the tab is way too small. The resulting stress riser makes it easy to snap the flag off when you smack the adapter against the receiver.
I just welded the broken parts back together and built up a nice strong radius on my tab.
It'll never break again.

yeah, it's definitely a weak point to the design... and apparently a known issue, according to my emails from magwedge. Hopefully they update the design. When I get the replacement tab, after I fit it to the gun again I think I'm going to have the tab welded to the body of the adaptor, to endure it doesn't break again.

Do the how do the mag thingy from magwedge work? I was looking at it before, and couldn't figure it out so I went with baur mags

I'll let you know when I get it running. It's a slick design - basically a magwell with a duckbill part that locks into the slot where the front of a duckbill mag would attach. If you buy one, be prepared to do some dremel work to allow AR style mags to insert fully though! And of course there's that somewhat flimsy tab that was discussed a couple of posts up. I think it will work well, so long as it doesn't break again!!

Bloody hell, I sounded like a bloody idjit....
I meant to ask how well does it work and how does it work, because I couldn't figure it out between the mags, I mean what does it do?

I know of 4 or five out of nearly 250 units sold.

By and large the issues seem to stem from over torquing the set screw or "smacking things" into place

In the test fittings we did we encountered no breakage whatsoever.

I do like the idea of strengthening the tab as suggested by Bubba tho, especially if you are prone to "hulk moments" lol.

Not sure if this will work, major newbie at posting pics, It worked, Holy HE Double hockey sticks
This is my 1955 Tula, Stock was stripped, lightly sanded and rubbed down with Linseed Oil. Added the Matador arms picatinny rail with the NC Star 3 X 9 P-4 Sniper scope with Red dot.
Stopped in at the Colonel Mustard booth and picked up the Bi-Pod Mark had put away for me and added the muzzle break at X-mas.
I have about 400 rounds through it without a hitch.

Out of the box

Here's my uber-tactical SKS

3 Coats of red mahogany stain & 7 coats of tung oil
Barrel chopped to 19" and crowned
New front sight assembly and front sight post fitted
Tech site rear aperature sight
It's a bit lighter now and better balanced too
Put 200 rounds through it after the mods and she ran like a top
Still want to do a trigger job though

Can I get some information on the front sight? Who makes it? Is it pinned on?

I bought the front sight from hical
It's their Trueshot SKS front Sight Conversion
I chopped my original barrel to 19 inches, sanded everything, then re-crowned and blued it myself before installing the front sight assembly
Installing the front sight assembly was easy, just slide it on, apply loctite to 3 screws and torque them up, wasn't difficult at all
The sight assembly did come with a threaded end which I thought would be handy, however it soon got the cop too
I also replaced the original SKS front sight post with a much narrower aftermarket post from hical as well
Since doing all the mods, I've now put over 600 rounds through the rifle and am quite happy with the results
Everyone stops to check it out at the range too... looking cool is so important

Had the stormtrooper gun out today. Fed, fired, and ejected 100% with 10-rd XCR pistol mags. Only thing that was glitchy was the bolt hold open - it wasn't always releasing. Needs a bit of sanding, I think. Overall REALLY impressed!!

They work alright.. I'm either gonna throw my scope back on or ditch the rail altogether and go with a peep rear in the factory location.
