Tactical/Modded SKS Picture Thread (can we sticky this?)

Some people said I should modify the bolt to close when the mags empty, thats illegal isn't it? I don't want to mod it to be honest, any one use the detachable mags without that certain mod

Are you asking about modding the bolt to allow a detachable mag to be inserted or removed when the bolt is closed?

Yah, I read that it causes a slam fire at times, I'm just trying to figure out what's best, the tapco mags or should I go steel, which I know the bolt has to be modified.
Trying to avoid if I can

It's not illegal. The SKS-D comes stock with this mod which allows it to use detachable mags. The mod when done on a non-D model makes the firearm safer as you can more easily unload and clear it if you need to stop firing mid-mag.

Without the mod, you're required to place it on safe, hold the rifle in a manner that will allow you to rack the action to the rear, ejecting the chambered round, and then while holding the rifle and the action to the rear you then have to remove the mag (it would be easier with 3 hands) and THEN you can properly cycle the action to ensure it's clear... cumbersome at best.

With the mod, place on safe, remove the mag, cycle the action, ejecting the chambered round, and verify clear.

I can't see any way that this would increase the chance of a slam fire.

Thanks guys, I was thinking of doing this to the uglier stocked Tula I own, both rifles are Tula, all number match, and I was thinking of the bolt mod, just nervous to do it

I would not do the bolt mod. It's only 5 rounds. Shoot them off and the bolt holds open. Change the mag. Rinse, repeat...

I finally received my RVG grip, my frankeinsten build is almost done. Still not sure if I want the techsight or Hical Peep...

Ironsight Kustoms with a sweet cerakote job.

Ya that's the nicest tacted one I've seen yet!!!! Care to share what's involved with that bad boy?

This is my first ever home gun project. I purchased an SKS with the plans on ripping it to shreds, but ended up with a very clean, matching number, hard wood stock, '51 Tula that I just couldnt bring myself to alter. I went to Cabela's and bought a second, laminate, non-matching number SKS on sale that had a few blueing issues and scratches for a smoking deal. I ripped off the stock and bayonet and replaced with an archangel kit that I ordered online. I then installed the kwik rail and a Bushnell red dot site. I never really planned on changing from the attached mag for fear of creating feeding issues but I didnt realize until after mounting the kwik rail that I was not going to be able to feed the mag with stripper clips anymore. LoL. So I ordered some duck bills and took them to Ironsight Kustoms here in Edmonton to be prettied up. I had butchered a few of the installations (gas tube) and it was really scratched up and looking horrid. Cody really cleaned it up nice. Its like I never butchered it in the first place. My only regret is not doing all of this to a HiCal SKS with the mag adapter and barrel chopped down. Im not about to attempt those projects on my own, and he basically told me it was more than the gun was worth to have them do the mods to mine. So here is the finished product (minus the red dot) I havent picked it up yet, these are a few of the pics he has posted on the ironsight kustoms FB page. I cant wait until next weekend when I can mount the site and take it out for a few hundred rounds of fun.

Thanks so much for bringing it to me, ive always been a fan of the sks and have wanted to do one for a while now. :)

...w0w..that SKS lookz AWESOME! Dont need a hi-priced hical ..just ad the sevensixtwo adapter , I think would step it up {just a little} Great job guyz!

Looks are only skin deep. That thing will be mega cumbersome to carry, shoulder and point after 15 mins of shooting.

As it is now it should be fine. Rail, and eventually scope, are the only real additions. If it shoots well and is going to be used for hunting I think it's a good trade-off. The rest of the changes are just swapped parts. It is one of the best looking tactical setups I've seen. Well done!
