Tactical Shotguns.......Looking at this one.

Hey Zuki4x4chick, I don't know much about that particular shotgun, but it is configured very much like the top folding law enforcement 870 remington's... I do know that the top folding stock is TERRIBLE for shooting with, ouch... Also, I wonder what replacement parts are like to try and get ahold of...

Here is another link to have a look at if your hubby is set on that type of shotgun setup...

Zuki,

I'd have to agree with Jay on this one, parts availability may be an issue, and Dlask's 870's are solid guns at a very good price, having all been refinished. The majority of them (I believe) are all refurbished police guns, which means that they had finish wear but were fired VERY little. The Remington 870 is THE MOST versatile shotgun for modifications and what have you, as everyone's got them, everyone's got parts for them, and everyone is selling cool addons for them like side saddles, extended safeties, magazine extensions, sights, stocks, flashlights, door breachers, slings, sling plates, and whatever else your husband may plead to get at a later date.

I highly recommend the 870 over the Franchi. Plus they're both pretty much the same price. (After tax and shipping)

Alright, thanks for the help.:D

Are the Nornico's garbage? We don't plan on hunting birds or anything.

Just to have around the camp........

Hey again Zuki, the norinco HP-9 shotguns and the Dominion Arms Grizzly are GOOD GUNS!!! They are copies of the Remington 870... Here is a couple pics of my birthday present from my wife, a Dominion Arms Grizzly, $289 NEW, $303.45 shipped to me from one of the dealers on the board CanAm, CanadaAmmo (up top)... It is my dedicated camping/work gun and is only 22 inches long with the pistol grip installed and still non-restricted.

Cheers

Not to jack the thread, and I do apologize if it's been discussed.... But how is this gun still non-restricted at 22" OAL?

Has anyone actually encountered a RCMP or CO in the bush with the pistol grip on it? Any issues that may come about?? I don't want to get arrested for having it in the truck with the pistol grip on.

Confused....

I had to convince some COs just yesterday that I was able to have my Fabarm comp outside of a range!!! And it's well over 30" in OAL

EDIT:

is it this 29 day BS? If so, what if they don't 'accept' that as an answer??

Hey Fonix, no problems...

The gun is NON-restricted because...

(1) it comes from the factory that way, with the 12.5 inch barrel...
(2) it is not made "shorter" by collapsing or folding... The removal of the regular stock and replacement of it with a pistol grip is perfectly legal in Canada... Hence, a 32 inch shotgun OAL becomes 22 inches with the pistolgrip added...

Cheers
Jay
P.S. My guess is that most cops would give you a hard time about it, but you would be in the "right", IMHO...

I see - thanks a lot for clarifying

Just concerned because the rules are there, but sadly most cops aren't exactly concerning themselves on knowing specifics like that.

Hate to have to go through the confiscation process just to go back to the G(ravel)R(oad)C(ops) station to pick it up and say "I told-ya-so"

Hey Jay, Thanks so much for the response. The price is right on that one......

I just read the review........ Seems like a winner to me..........

Was the pistol grip an accessory?....Where do you source them, and do they have flashlight & mounting kit add on?.....

Cheers

Candace :D

Hey Zuki, anything that will fit on a 870 "should" fit on the HP-9 or Grizzly... The Grizzly comes with the regular stock installed and the pistol grip as an accessory... I'm new to the "tacti-cool" shotgun world, so I have no idea where all the goodies might be sourced, I just know the "sky" is the limit with a 870 platform...

Cheers

Amen to that Jay. The 870 is the best selling shotgun in the world IIRC. BadBoyBeeson makes some very cool accessories right here in Canada if you're after the top end stuff. At the other end of the cost range is the TacStar stuff. You can customize your 870/870 clone to be whatever you want it to be.

Another advantage is that just about any gunsmith already knows the 870 inside and out. There are also gunsmiths that specialize in tweaking your 870 to be the latest and greatest zombie-neutralization tool. Muzzle brakes, breacher's attachments, Vang Comp barrels, re-parking the whole thing....

And I have yet to meet a top folder that I liked. Not to say that I'd never buy one if I needed compact storage with an 18" barrel....but I'd probably go with a Hogue short LOP or Knoxx telescoping stock and a 12.5 or 14" barrel instead. I like a very solid feel in terms of the stock/reciever interface.

Zuki,

Another vote of confidence for the Dominion Arms Grizzly 870. It's a direct copy of the Remington, and a well done one at that. I just ordered one two days ago, as a matter of fact. I've owned a couple of 870's, and we'll see what they're like in comparison. Board member NINE has a very thorough review of his up right now.

They're great for the money, less than a refurbished 870 from Dlask, come with a factory 12.5" barrel (absolutely Gucci), a direct copy of the 870, and come from CanAm with the pistol grip at no extra cost. A fantastic deal, which is why I bought one.

It's probably the best bet for your significant other - cheap, quality, and easily customizable, as anything for an 870 will fit (some slight fitting required for forends, I think).

so not to sound like a donkey  but throwing on a top folding stock from a 870 on this .... keeping the pistol grip. then would it be restricted?

I just cant wrap my Liberal infected brain around that this is non restricted...
Looks like things are getting better around here :D

I can't remember again why the Franchi is not a good shotgun to get?... For the price that the guy is asking, its hard to go wrong, and if you want to be a little different than the herd, than it might be the way to go over the 870... or its clones. I vote for you getting the Franchi. If I didn't have to pick and choose (ie more money) I would buy it myself...

Understandable Mr.4x4, let me try and set it straight. Yes, with these short barreled shotguns, if the length drops below 26 with a folding or collapsing stock, your breaking the law. By putting a pistol grip onto a pump action shotgun, like the 8.5 or 12.5 or 14 inch 870's and clones we are now seeing in Canada, you are NOT making the gun shorter than 26 by collapsing or folding... I believe it is as simple as that.

I believe the "true" spirit of the law was to prevent you from having a gun shorther than 26, but as with most of our firearm law, it was very poorly written by people who are/were not firearm enthusiasts themselves, so this only compounded the problem...

So, now you see firearms in Canada like the Grizzly, OAL of 22 inches with a pistol grip, the Dlask 8.5 inch Remington 870 OAL of 19 inches with the pistol grip installed AND... Many many cool guns like the VZ 58 and 858, the Tavor and Swiss arms family There are others to, I just can't think of them off the top of my head.

Cheers
Jay

Thanks for the responses guys ........

We found a used Rem. 870 for dirt cheap from a good friend......

I will keep that Grizzly on the back burner if something falls through........

I think my hubby will be very excited to start accessorizing.......:D:dancingbanana:

Non restricted ?

This is from http://www.cfc-cafc.gc.ca/faq/default_e.asp#a3

Restricted firearms include:

handguns that are not prohibited;
semi-automatic, centre-fire rifles and shotguns with a barrel shorter than 470 mm (about 18.5 inches);
rifles and shotguns that can be fired when their overall length has been reduced by folding, telescoping or other means to less than 660 mm (about 26 inches); and firearms restricted by Criminal

Here is letter from CFC / RCMP:
Dear #########,
Thank you for your telephone call today with regard to the legal classification of the Remington 870 shotgun and the MCS system, ################################################xx ################################################xx ############. Short barreled pump action shotguns with folding stocks are controlled within the Criminal Code of Canada, and it specifically details that the firearm is reduced to a length of less than 660 mm by means of folding, telescoping or otherwise. The otherwise does not take into consideration replacement with commercially available stocks such as a pistol grip stocks. Thus it is very legal and does not change the class of a non semi automatic firearm if you put a manufactured short barrel and pistol grip on the gun.

I trust this response has met your needs, please feel free to call if I can be of any further assistance.

Explaining to the police that anything but a hunting firearm is legal to own is a uphill battle. Just stop speeding too and from the range and obey traffic laws and it shouldn't be a problem.
