Tacticool Deer Rifle

says the guy with an avatar from family guy?

Come on lots of mature people Leo's want to look cool, how do you think tehy keep selling Harley Davidsons. As long as it gets teh job done.

What I watch on TV and what I do while training and while on the job are completely different. I am in no way saying that a cool looking gun is a bad thing. But the reason for wanting that cool gun and while in training for a job as a CO is what I was saying was immature:rolleyes: For every job their is a proper tool. Taking a 9mm Storm on a deer hunt.... get real!!!

Don't ask me why I am bumping this thread instead of creating a new one, considering the massive amount of flaming it contains, but hey ! I guess I'm in some way masochist. I bought a 858, but I don't feel soooo confortable with this gun. So I am once again in the market for a new toy ( YES I dropped the CX4 idea ). I may just end up being resonable and pack my 870 but why use your gun when you can add a new one to the collection !! Also, this rifle isn't all about looking cool, but about liking the look of it. Let me explain myself : I personally believe that the guns I buy should be very nice visually, since here in Quebec we can no longer shoot on our lawn just for the fun of it ( must be hunting or at the range, the closest range from home is 100km away ), they often are used more as " gun cabinet decorations ", I want them to have that special touch that makes you feel like this isn't your grandma toy. And last of all, this gun must be able to kill a wounded deer or black beer at a distance of 10yds and have a bore over 6mm large. Not a professional deer hunter's rifle. End of the novel.

Go with a storm in a .40 and pick up some Winchester Ranger "T"s(formerly "black Talons"). They are all ready going 1200ft/s from a 4.5 inch barrel (165 gr I think), you ought to get 1800ft/s plus from a non-res 18.5in barrel.

This is about taste and looks in the end and the last set of criteria only showed the need to be 10 yards or so. Plenty of penetration with a fantastic bullet design and add to this the ease of use, low weight, low main, fair price and available parts and accessories.

Bonne Chance!

To hell with Tacticool, get an XLR in .444 or 45-70!

###Y!

hell yeah

and if you really need tactical, ziptie a laser on the front and paint it OD:puke:

Jesus, I can't fathom how this thread has wasted 13 pages of CGN bandwidth. If you're this indecisive about choosing a simple tool for such a mundane job, how professional are you going to be in the field as a conservation officer?

Why do you give a crap about being "tacticool"? That's the kind of hotdog bull#### that will keep you on the outside looking in as far as actually getting a job as an officer. Being a gear queer ain't gonna earn you brownie points.

Look no further than a Winchester Trapper in .44 Magnum, .45 LC., or .30-30 Win. Paint the stocks black and mount a dot sight on it if that makes you feel better.

Ok guys I feel I really need to clear up a few points here. This thread is about firearms. Not behaviour, or maturity, or such. About firearms. ALL of the posts stating those are blind replies, as there are very few people on this forum that know me in real life. And those who really know me did not state " a lack of maturity ".

For anyone who it may interest, I have always been working at the same place and most people there like me for my knowledge and professionalism. I am the youngest volunteer firefighter in my area, and the commandant is giving me tasks he would not give to older people, just because he knows I will do it well and quick. I am respected by all LEOs I know, and the few COs I had the chance to chat with told me they would be happy to work with me. I never go to the bar, or drink for that matter. I stopped smoking pot over a year ago and did not even think about smoking one puff again. I am paying myself a brand new car, and never missed a payment in almost two years. My parents does not pay for me anything. So if that is a lack of maturity, well I guess you should have a good look in the mirror.

Now back to guns : I have an interest in millitary firearms. Period. I do not have much interest in "traditionals hunting rifles". Most of the firearms I own are in someway millitary related, so it seems totally normal for me to look for a militaryish rifle when I need a rifle. If I spoke about packing along a modded 10/22 with a 40mm under-barrel launcher, then I would have understood some of you guys replies. But I posted to ask for opinions on what do you guys think would fit the bill. The course never asked to bring a rifle capable to harvest a deer everyday at 2000m, they simply stated : Need for a firearm. I do not feel the need to harvest myself a deer, and do not feel the need to pack a 300 win mag as I am totally aware I will not be able to shoot it well. Again a lack of maturity I guess... All I wish to be able to do, is relieve a deer from it's misery after some idiot on the course emptied his .300 mag semi auto into it's intestine, or stop a bear at point blank range. Nothing more.

Now sorry for the novel guys but I really needed to vent, as I felt some replies were totally un-wanted and uneducated.

Slowbalt you have my vote for the most understanding guy of the year. Very nice post you made quite elegant and then look what you get underneath it. Oh well I hope you got some good ideas from this thread I know I did. I didn't read anything but the last page this time so if this has been posted already I apologize. There is a nice FN49 for sale in EE a little while ago rebarreled to .308 that would be kind of cool. I was thinking of picking it up but I'm short of funds Oh well. Either that or go totally cool with the SMD 12 in the EE as well. 12 gaugeis over 6mm isn't it:)

Keep on fighting the good fight

and then look what you get underneath it.
