Tainted Ammunition in Syria

Most ammo that is imported to Canada is supposed to be of known lineage. As in it was manufactured, stored in documented warehouses, and eventually sold to the surplus market. Ammunition that was deployed to warzones or captured from enemy stockpiles during combat is not supposed to make its way into Canadian or US civilian markets. That isn't always the case but I've never heard of incidents of booby-trapped ammo in Canada.

Some of the CBC 75 ammo that was causing problems in the States made it's way into Canada. Don't think it was intentionally spiked though.

I also got some surplus German 8mm that turned up more than a few rounds with no powder in them. They were kinda neat to get cause you can just picture the prisoner making the ammo flipping off the Germans behind their backs saying this one won't kill anyone. Certainly hope to never see spiked/explosive rounds turn up here.
 
This has been going on since armies and rebels alike thought it would be a great idea.
I have a book on pirates that says when some ships were abandoned, the crew left out muskets and flintlock pistols that were loaded, but with way too much powder and a barrel blockage. The result would seriously injure or kill the boarding crew member and his friend around him.

This ammo is not supposed to get into Canada. The USA gave such "spiked" ammo to ISIS and terror groups around the world, but its not supposed to come back. There is a video on you tube of one of these rounds going off inside a civilians gun in the USA.

Also, I had some Nazi marked ammo that I suspected had no powder inside. (I couldn't hear any shaking.) I pulled a few and one was empty and three were full to the top with a white powder. My best guess is it was booby trapped.
 
reminds me of the early days of the Syrian conflict. There was a news article, the rebels purchased SAMs from China. They received tubes full of sand. It was a hilarious article.

haha I would love to see their faces when they realized they were filled with sand! They should have filled them with horse dung ;)
 
The reporters concern over the legality and the poor, disfigured "freedom" fighter seems a bit much. Naive at least.
 
There was a video floating around (can't find it now) where some Western (can't remember if American or British) contractors are shooting AK's on a range when one of their rifles explodes. The guy wasn't hurt but it scared the crap out of everyone. It wasn't the same one as the clip shown in the video; the AK is blown to pieces where the one in the video stays mostly together (the dust cover is blown off and I'm sure the bolt went flying, but the barrel stayed attached to the receiver).

There is also that somewhat famous video where the one terrorist group leader is shooting an AK in a promotional/recruitment video and it explodes. He isn't hurt but looks like he needed a change of pants.
