thanks for all the help! really like the price of the soft take down but like looks of the hard one LOL the wife and I are really taking a liking to skeet and sporting clays so we need all the stuff to go with it now LOL
 
I like the SKB because it has separate areas for the individual pieces, and the foam construction is quite firm. Best compromise in my opinion, but a hard case would be nice. I don't care for the aftermarket cases that have no dividers though.
 
Anyone else find it ironic that we (myself included) will spend $1500, $2500, $5000, etc on a new gun, and then squak about ponying up the $250 for a good (to which I automatically go to Pelican) case for it?

Pelican may be one of the best for protecting your investment, but I don't like them myself. Seem too bulky to me. I was looking for an aluminum take down case, but can't seem to find any similar to the factory Browning one that was offered with the dual barrel set a few years ago. Almost bought a wood/canvas/leather Browning case, but thought I'd make due with the cheapie SKB until I find a case that is airline approved.

The best cases if you can bear the weight and want an airline case are Americase, heavy as heck, but the gun will get there unharmed no matter how hairbrained the baggage gorilla is.
 
Browning make nice cases for their guns. New, they are on the expensive side. Over the years, I have purchased a couple of their cases used at a very reasonable price. Best place that I have found them is on Trapshooters.com , but if importing them from the US, which is where all mine came from, is an issue, you might find some at local gun shows.

Oh jeese, don't make it a challenge for the baggage gorillas...... Americase are pretty good for travel. I use one with a canvas cover. They are not gorilla proof though. I've heard a few stories of destruction. (I seriously believe that some baggage handlers make it a challenge to destroy some luggage)

If you spend any amount of time on airline travel with a long gun, look for a Tuffpak. Still not bulletproof (when TSA wants in, TSA gets in), but if airline protection is a big concern, this is the best I've seen so far.
 
I have one of these Boyt take down shotgun case in 30 inch and one in 34 inch and another in 30 inch with sleeves for subgauge tubes, also one of these GreatLakes Sporting Arms 32 inch take down shotgun case with subgauge tube slips. I have an Americase for my Skeet gun and subgauge tubes and I also have a TuffPak for flying that any of the soft cases work with.

But best of all I have one of these Negrini cases, expensive but well made.

If you're interested, I'd sell any of the soft cases.I'm in the Staes all the time so they are easy to replace. If you want new go to OpticsPlanet, call Gagnon Sports in Oshawa or call Great Lakes.

The soft cases are great for going back and forth to the range where I pretty well always practice with the 20 gauge so no need to drag the tubes back and forth. I use the Americase or Negrini when traveling to weekend shoots and the TuffPak Break Down Case when flying.
Yes, I have gun case issues. LOL

BTW: anybody buying a new TuffPak for flying in or through the States, order it with the TSA lock

BINGO!!! We have a winner!! Best case around IMO for protecting a gun! As for airline travel I cannot say, I have only once put a gun on the airplane and I was 17. That was long before todays security measures etc. but for all around transport at home going to the range? I think these cases are top notch.

While they may have some nice looking products, I would advise against dealing with Bagmaster; they have been screwing me around over an order for months. Downright rude and uncooperative.
There may be some Canadian retailers that sell them, however.
 
Do you have a table saw? I made my own for about $65. Made a double case for my buddy too. I don't think I'd use them for air travel, but they're good for going to the club.
