I'm sure you're right that the presence of grizzlies has an influence on caliber choice in BC. That said, the .30-30 is also popular in Labrador, and they have polar bears. (And they're bigger and meaner than grizzlies.
)Overall, though, I'd say that the prevalence of the .30-30 (and for that matter, the .303 British is also very prevalent in our Province) is due to local factors such as: firearms being handed down from father to son; the availability of ammunition; the relative unavailability of other calibers; the "cheap" factor (in both firearms and ammo); and combinations of all of the above.
