Taking elk with 30-30?

Maybe it's a regional thing, in 20+ years hunting in northern B.C. I've never met anyone packing a .30-30 or heard of anyone although I'm sure some must. Mostly .300 mags and .338s. Maybe because of a healthy grizzley population, even if your not hunting them, their cleaning up the gut piles in hunting areas and they don't like to share.

I'm sure you're right that the presence of grizzlies has an influence on caliber choice in BC. That said, the .30-30 is also popular in Labrador, and they have polar bears. (And they're bigger and meaner than grizzlies. )

Overall, though, I'd say that the prevalence of the .30-30 (and for that matter, the .303 British is also very prevalent in our Province) is due to local factors such as: firearms being handed down from father to son; the availability of ammunition; the relative unavailability of other calibers; the "cheap" factor (in both firearms and ammo); and combinations of all of the above.

2- people use moose rifles on texada I saw it with my own eyes!!!!!

3-yes there are to dam many bears in BC no doubt they need to realy look at the leh system and maybe open up grizz hunting again for a couple seasons to thin them down and yes there is obviously better calibers than 30-30s when hunting in these areas were bears are gonna get in your face

I dunno them racoons are mean little beggers but who knows what we wil end up with, I kind of enjoyed slinging an arrow through that 1 so may just bring a bow, or a 12 guage with 00 buck

Speaking of .30.30

My son asked me this morning at breakfast if I'd take him out beaver hunting with the ol dirty 30 tonight.

One less beaver wouldn't hurt Off to the pond.........
