how the HELL do you know what the bullet did if the moose ran away?:bangHead:

edited to add, STAY TUNED this outta be good :runaway:
I've never heard of any game animal running away with broken shoulders?:slap:

That is why it's common to shoot grizzelys on the shoulder, if your not concerned with meat damage it's a good way to anchor them.

You wait Foxer, some day they'll drop them ol boring calibers and make a .30.30 marlin short mag and then the moose 'll be running for cover

LOL - i'll wait with baited breath for my new 30-30 shortmag. :)

oh gawd so during buck fever and short stroking sesion you watched the bullet hit the shoulder therefore it must have failed because the moose tok off ?
guess it couldnt have gone right through high and not hit any vitals as you obviously werent aiming for them anyways as you said yer 338 would have broken both shoulders?

were all waiting in high anticipation of this story over and over :onCrack:

you LIAR you didnt see them first to yell deer

True, but I still was the one who yelled it. It just made sense.. you won't fit under my truck without me installing a lift kit so it HAD to be me....

well you see most of us are meat hunters so blowing the piss out of the MEAT with a 338 just wouldnt be cool, and most people aim at vitals on a moose afterall its not a grizzly bear and going to kick yer butt if it can still move for a few moments so broken everything is required

Wow....What a way to turn a rookie off...

The guy said he was a rookie at the time, he messed up and then messed up again short stroking.

Just as many of us have come to decisions about what gear we like by trial and error and our own experiences, so has he. The 30-30 sure can kill a moose if everyone does thier part , but frankly, a 30-30 s not the greatest choice for all around hunting in BC, where he appears to be living.

Would a larger cartridge with a better bullet been helpful in this particualr instance? I dont' know, because *I* wasn't there, so I'm not going to judge him. I will say something that I think is pertinent here though:

For most of my hunting, I use a "more than adequate" cartridge with a Premium bullet- Not because I think that anything less will not kill a moose when things go properly, but because I want everything to work, when things go WRONG.
