Taking your special and vintage rifles into the bush?

I have a few that I only take out in nice weather, I have a few I only use in bad weather and I also have a few I never use ..... bought them strictly to admire them.

Maybe I'm not right but that's how it goes.

There is no right or wrong to this only what each individual decides to do with what they own
I was a collector for many years so bought doubles of many one to save and one to shoot and yes I have some NIB for over 40 years and will never be fired because of today's value they have
Why shoot it when I have the same one used or an equivalent to use in the same caliper
In the end I will die and my daughter will sell them all and use the money on her house already told me that many times
Just my 2 cents

I have no safe queens, well ... last I checked. If I can't throw it over my shoulder and walk North onto the creek... not worth having.
Not that I see anything wrong with safe queens...just not my deal.

Have to agree with this , I am an accumulator , not a collector, I like to shoot eveything I own. If I was a collector it would be foolish to actually hunt with a collector's piece that was unfired, but an historicall piece such as a rifle that Kerr or Ruark or Hemmingway owned for example, well they alrready have a history of being shot so that is a bit different I think.

Would be a shame to let a real rigby 275 rot in a safe without stretching its legs once and awhile. Those were sporting rifles made in the golden years of hunting. Have any pics?

I agree ........... I wouldn't own a rifle I wouldn't hunt with, esp a 275 Rigby.

It rained that day. That's what I bought it for.

Some of my hunting guns are also collector peices , like Win. 405 , .44 -40 etc. These ones get taken to a stand in a good case.
Out of the case & held in my lap while I am there. Then back into the case & return to camp , which is a smooth trail .
All good for me & the gun.

I do think there’s a line that can be drawn

Is it an ultra rare production 99% $3000 rifle? Or Simo Hayhas mosin? Don’t take it into the woods

Is it just a really nice classic hunting rifle? Taking it hunting is literally what it was designed for

Agree but some of those old just classic hunting rifles are worth a lot of money today also so one really has to be careful IMO

Fair enough. Care should be taken to avoid abuse and unnecessary damage. But for me part of the enjoyment of nice rifles is using them, if others want to leave them in the safe and take them out every now and then for fondling that’s their prerogative. Probably smarter for the wallet that way too :D

Many have them as investments don't forget and if one looks at how the pricing has gone in the last two years starting to look like a dam fine investment vintage guns are now also
As far as the wallet goes NOT IMHO most that collect have 10X plus what those that just use them own from what I have seen over the years and lots of money tied up
I know when dad died he left me over 300 and he was a collector. I am down to less than 1/3 of that now but they die with me
Like I use an example why take a standard weight winchester pre 64 model 70 out in 243 when less than 3000 were made when one can take a remington 700 bdl 243. Deer sure doesn't know the difference nor does one using the bolt
Cheers

My son and I have many wood stock rifles/shotguns between $5000 to $10,500. We shoot and hunt with them all the time, except for a couple that we recently received.

If i can afford a mg34 one day, it will be taken to hunt no matter how it sounds weird. Imagine the picture with a buck and the million dollar smile. In the real world, i'm always tempted to use my No4 mk1*T outside of the range but haven't to this day.
