Talk me into keeping one or getting rid of one

Savage is easily a pound heavier. Also has the accutrigger that I’m unsure about.. i hunt mid October northern Ontario,, it’s probable I’ll have gloves on while hunting and not so sure about that trigger.

IMO, the best way to tune an accutrigger is to take it out throw ,it as far as you can, and install a Rifle Basix!:dancingbanana:

I agree with the accuracy notes.
Buy the scope you desire, place it on one rifle and go shoot it.
Swap it around and try it again.

Don't worry about the bullseye, groups on paper is what yer after.

Try a few free hand shots and find which one fits you best.

Beeeeyewtee is in the eye of the beerolder.

Tools be tools.................

i came here to say exactly the same

do not sell any....you will regret it

i find it hard to believe you'd regret any mass produced, synthetic stocked rifle you can just reorder that you haven't taken any animals with or shot. Maybe I don't get as attached as others.

you don't have sell either, one was free anyway...

I'd be taking both to the range on the same day, and seeing which one shoots the best with the ammo's I want it to shoot with....that may answer your question right there. I wouldn't do anything until I had them both scoped and group tested thoroughly. I'd be leaning to the browning though as I can only get so far with savage, too bad it wasn't a wood stocked browning that you had won, it would be closer to the things you like for appearance, that savage is wearing the most lipstick I've seen in awhile though so I can't say I hate it...but in time..... One may grow on you while the other may grow away from you. For me I'd bet the browing would end up growing on me while the things that have always bugged me about savages would likely end up becoming volume 10 and driving me mad ;)

I got it...sell em both, go get a new Ruger Hawkeye Hunter and have your cake and eat it too. An entirely next level of rifle than either of those and you get the walnut/stainless/crf, red recoil pad, top shelf barrel and bedding set up....this is the way. ;)

there's also the model 70 that would now fit in your new budget you'd get from selling both....but the latest Hawkeye out 70's the 70....it's the best choice in that class imo, read some reviews, they drive tacks and have nailed ALL the features

Doesn't Ruger use a lot of investment castings and MIM parts these days rather than machining them?

Maybe it's just me, but the prices Ruger is asking for those rifles seems a bit crazy.

Lots to think about.. if I could find a nice walnut stock for the browning it would be a no brainer for me I think. I use a nice custom rem 700 in boring 3006 right now, it wears walnut already, and has killed several moose and countless deer with it. It doesn’t bother me to scratch that one up, but I hate having to clean that blued wooden rifle after hunting in the rain all day, and sometimes all week.

I’d never buy another ruger,, have had a couple and couldnt get them to group to my liking, and sold both of them. Have a model 70 featherweiggt in 270 made in Connecticut,, love that gun, but it’s a deer rifle. If I could find a m70 super grade in 7rm I’d trade both for it pretty quickly I’d guess, another gun I’ve always really liked.

It seems all new guns are more than capable of minute of rib out to ranges I’d shoot. Whatever I keep won’t be handed down 60 years from now,, I’ll already be dust for 30 of those I’m guessing. And the week after I go, someone is going to get a hell of a deal from my wifr on all my hunting things, a boat and ridiculous amounts of fishing equipment for pennys on the dollar

And I still haven’t decided on what glass for this gun thinking Leupold Vx3hd 4-14 would work nice for my aging eyes.. and this type of application.

How come I have a feeling I’ll be using the 06 again this year , with 2 silver guns sitting in the cabinet waiting to be decided upon

Contact Browning and see if you can buy a wood stock from them. From there I'd try the warranty center in Canada, then the EE. Wood stocks certainly exist for em...

Keep the savage. Those classics are nice rifles. Be careful not to over torque the bottom screws as one that holds the trigger guard on is only a wood screw. It will strip then you will be doing a stock repair like I had to.

Those Hawkeye hunters shoot and they’ve out 70’d the 70 since I researched them thoroughly lately. They changed and upgraded a lot and the reviews are eye opening. Do yourself a favor and make sure you research all options now that the free rifle opens the door to more of the market! Those new rugers are a different beast than old stuff imo, I think you’ll find out if you dig into it. Anyway, I was able to go up to a sako 90 for my new want rifle desire but after all research the Hawkeye Hunter was next in line and I would have gone there if I couldn’t pull off the sako. Don’t rush this lol, get the full picture.

Here ya go

In 7mm rem mag also. But there are quite a few more article reviews and tests and video ones as well. It’s a different beast than before. They got all right, barrel, bedding, trigger, safety, floor plate release, no plastic, all good stuff! Barrel alone read that. All the ones I found shot lights out. They really did nail every single aspect they mat have missed before.

He even compared it to his older Ruger at the exact same time, so you’ll be able to relate to everything he says.

I have no issues with cast like that, what do you see is problem with it? Just too much money for not being billet machined stuff? I think that stuff is stiff and tough as fack. It’s not 5 grand so it’s still bridging gap of being a proper hunting rifle you don’t have to treat as a safe queen but it will look and handle hunting like a champ for ages. I see no downside here

Anyway this Hawkeye rifle seems to fit the op desires and he maybe had some preconceived bias from older rugers that I’m trying to show he should take another look so he doesn’t miss a chance to know the knew story as it’s not the same as the old story. That Hawkeye in 7rm would be a dandy stainless classic walnut with everything done right now and some of most desirable attributes in rifles.

You look at all these options and try to figure which one you’re going to pick up at beginning of each season and give you the biggest smile and pride of that ownership year after year and I think the Ruger is in a whole different level above the first two options and also makes a heckuva dads rifle hand me down to stay in family. I don’t get those vibes from the savage or browning.
