Talley quality?

Heavy scopes, snappy recoil, and mounts lacking a decent recoil shoulder, adds up to problems. Why a company would design an action with an integral base and not provide a decent recoil shoulder, I can't imagine. The same thing applies to CZ and Tikka. Custom actions with integral base which will accept Weaver rings are the best set up when it comes to durability. The trend toward 2 pound scopes is bound to cause problems though.
I agree that the Sako system, with tapered dovetail, is especially stupidly designed.

Material is only part of the strength equation, geometry is important as well, could have been cut with sharp angle introducing weakness

The only mounts I’ve had break off were Leupold ringmounts on a sako 75 308 win. The tapered receivers are painful. Leupold warrantied them no questions asked.
Otherwise, I have had no issues with mounting scopes on tapped receivers on hundreds of rifles.

It is interesting, these Talleys were a replacement for a set of Leupold rings... the rear ring of the Leupolds broke..
Now the Talleys failed.
I have Sako Opti locks on order.

The scope weighs a pound and a half.

Have you ever drilled and tapped a sako receiver?

The thread I did on Africa hunting about the warne problems another member commented how the tiny little.screws holding down his weaver bases on his 458 sheared off, he required quite a few stitches .

Stupid dovetail offers no advantage at all .Not sure why they keep using it .Stubborn stupid is all I can think of. I didn't think Finnish people were bull headed .Must have been some German engineer involved there .LOL
That is why the Opti lock system is so heavy.

It is on Africahunting dotcom thread is called 458Lott ate my QD Warne rings . https://www.africahunting.com/threads/458-lott-ate-my-qd-warne-rings.59627/. I am running a 3 ring warne set up now on the Lott and the Razor1-6. Scope is darn heavy and the Qd levers aren't ideal for a consistent torque. The three rings and ensuring the levers are tight it seems good now . I had no problems with warne qd on lighter recoiling rifles like the 375h&h and heavier scopes .

I just installed a set of Talley bases on my Cooper Varminter
with a large Bushnell XRS.

Both bases and rings had the model numbers on
them , I would question if these are original.

Guntech have you looked at any of Richard Nears products for sakos? I have used their Alphamount on a pic rail with no problems, very nice mount.

I had a NEAR rail on a Sako 85 and it was a work of art. You need some sort of faith to trust it will hold without any screws, which it did very well. Great design and looks. I had mine paired with ATRS rings and the combo was flawless.

Whoops. I've only ever used their lightweight series. Never had a problem even on my Ultralight 300 Weatherby, that being said all my scopes were on the smaller side(weight and size). Every now and then a lemon and get out there.

On large caliber you want steel base and rings. It is no place for light weight base & rings.
Are the base Tally ? Mismatching brand can lead to dimensional issues - over torquing can break it if too much play between the two.

I like Talley lightweight, one-piece, rings and bases for most bolt guns but not on a Sako. I do not trust a friction fit mount. I only use Optilocks on all of my Sako rifles.

The 1-piece optilocks are my go to for currently offered sako mounts, and I still have two sets of Warne premier series which in blued are my favourite. I don’t understand adding a base to a rifle with integral bases and most of the drive on bases use set screws which chew up the top of the dovetails when tightened down.

That said, I’m sure Talley will make it right.

I've had 3 sets of Talley One Piece fail now (in aluminum, not steel) one on a Montana 7wsm, one on a Rem 700 243AI, and one on a Montana 223AI. Recoil on two of those wasn't an issue. That said, my 300 Ultra has the same rings and they haven't failed, yet. All rifles with Talleys are having the rings/bases replaced with steel. Can't trust them now, so they won't be on a rifle that gets shot at fur.
