Tanfoglio 10mm Problems...(pics)

The EAA Witness guns are EAA marked Tanfoglio guns as you likely know. There is no difference in the two. While fit and finish are different the steels in the Tanfoglios would not be any different from one gun to the next on purpose.

So are both Tanfolgio and EAA guns made in Italy? It seems like the Tanfoglios that come from Italy through Freedom Ventures (eg the Stock models) get rave reviews, whereas with Tanfoglio/EAAs, the reviews are decidedly mixed (albeit improving over the last few years). I'm wondering if that is just the difference between the high and low end of the line or if there are manufacturing difference with the EAA marked Tanfoglios? I haven't searched in detail which I guess I should but I just notice that opinions are quite polarized

To my knowledge EAA is nothing more than the US Importer of Tanfoglio guns. The guns are marked EAA not Tanfoglio and marketed in the US as EAA. I have not followed the US forums all that much of late but EAA had a terrible reputation for service in the US. Not sure if it has improved any over the years. This is different than what we experience up here with Sean and Freedom Ventures.

It would be poor business practice to use different assembly methods or parts for two identical guns. Makes no sense. The margins on firearms would not allow it unless a company wanted to go tits up in a hurry. Perception is 9 tenths of the law I suppose. If you think it is...it is. I know a guy who complains about how his gun was so unreliable he traded it to another member. The latter has never had a problem with the gun,,,ever. It was the sellers reloads that were simply to long. To this day the individual tells all who will listen how unreliable the model is.

EAA imports a lot of the lower end versions of pistols Tanfoglio makes. From what I have seen the differences are only in the fit and finish. I would expect the internals of the high end guns are polished better and in some cases actually fitted. Just a guess. Marketing has a lot to do with the end price of a firearm as much as the cost of production.

Give Sean a call at Freedom Ventures he can confirm or otherwise what I believe is the case. The Tanfoglio grip is so much nicer than the CZ grip IMHO. Tanfoglio changed the mainspring position which allows for a deeper cut under the beavertail.

Take Care

They are both made by Tanfoglio in Italy. EAA is an import company based in Florida. The biggest difference is fit and finish, most importantly though is quality control. My slide was improperly treated resulting in the metal being much too hard and brittle.

Looks like Canuck44 beat me to the reply...

I revived this thread by accident...sorry. I have purchased an EAA Witness pistol in 10mm and I'll be watching carefully for damage as I use it. Since I can't find anything online more recent than about 5 years ago regarding problems with the 10mm pistols, I remain hopeful that the problems have been resolved.
