Tanker Carbine(update pg 3)

Did you ever do any no1’s Beater? Would love to see some more photos of your work.

I think I built about 20 of them. some of the last ones I did I marked the buttstock with a big stamp I have here S A L & Co was the stamp id still be building them if there was lower wood out there

the 4/ mk 2 isn't mine no

im almost finished maybe my last one. used an AIA spare bolt head, got a RKS stainless bbl installed up, and chambered for 7.62x39. I used a ruger mini 30 mag fits very well. just fitting up the wood now

Here are a couple of pics of Beater's tankers.

And a No 4 Mk 2 version. I don't think Beater did this one.

What is the barrel length of those rifles?

I would love to see some pics of that. Ruger Mini 30 mags can be a lot of work to install and feed properly. I would like to see how you do it.

Got the rife about and hour ago, its in OK shape, Been painted, Luckily most of it will be hidden under wood, I will probably try to source a new trigger guard/magwell, This one pretty pitted, Bore is really nice.

Slapped some more wood on it and changed the stock, I now notice when I get my nose cap it will almost be right at the barrel band, Oh well. should be a fun little project still.
If only my sporter top and bottom wood was 3" longer it would have made this project way easier!

I've got one of those. Randomly picked it up at the Calgary gun show a few years back. Always wondered who made it and what that stamp meant.

I have a pic of a buttstock with SALCo stamped on it...always wondered what the story was with it.

As for shooting short barrelled .303's...there is some kick and commotion, not to mention muzzle blast. The round was designed to be fired in a longer barrel. It's fun but not as peaceful as a long bbl'd stocker.

Perhaps that trick some did...disassemble 7.62x39 ammo and pour the powder into primed .303 brass and use the bullets, might work well with one of these?

some very nice rifles there ,Corwin arms as a couple no1mk111 rifles with barrels cut to 21 inches and factory site reinstalled that will work great to mare a tanker rifle .they are selling foe 125 each.
im going to have to get out my old ross mk111 that as been cut down to 24 inch barrel and have a look at making a ross tanker

I built a muzzle brake from a bubba No5 flash hider for a friend a couple of years ago. It works very well but just way to much work for the effort with a manual lathe/mill/drill.

I had to make up an insert for the cone, silver solder it into place, bore it, cut grooves on each side and drill holes through to the bore. Lots of measuring and fiddling to get the bore of the brake true to the axis of the barrel bore as well. It's OK to do a one off or make one for yourself from an old flash hider that has the bayo lugs cut off but wouldn't be worthwhile without a CNC set up.

IMHO, the short scout or tanker versions are handy as well as fun to shoot. As mentioned, recoil/muzzle blast with full charged loads is substantial. My conclusion was those factors made shooting them tedious and seeing as they are already bubbas, a muzzle brake doesn't detract from their appearance and makes them much more functional IMHO.

desert eagle

yes and the ejector would be built into the 303 mag body. I'll need to dig out those pictures again.

Oh and the tanker I built I stamped it on the rear of the receiver with a small w above a large C with a small A inside the C, woodchopper arms :)

stamp is where you would find the NRF or SSA stamp of a peddle scheme No1
