First deer hide I wanted done with the hair on I took to a taxidermist around Red Deer. That mistake cost me an extra $125 for his "services" (shipping and handling really, although he 'trimmed' the hide - something I had specifically asked him not to do...).
I sent a bear skin to Edmonton Fur Tanners Ltd. in 2004 and was quite happy. I paid $30 per lineal foot and they would have skinned the lips, ears, nose, and paws for $50 more. What I got back was a soft tanned hide with hair on, just like the taxidermists get hides back from the tannery.
They are in the yellow pages, along with several others in Edmonton that do the same sort of thing - just phone around ahead of time.
