Tapco magazine cleaning

I came across someone who had a Tapco mag with a hole in the plastic cap on the mag's floor plate...to allow it to be open for cleaning...
I agree it's a problem having a mag that can't be open in case some sand gets in there, but from what I understand, the modification done to the mag to limit it at 5 rounds is supposed to be permanent, and by that it does no only means: permanent at the time it was sold, but also it should not be altered at any time during the life of the mag.

Am I wrong ? I would be the first to be happy in that case :p but having a pinned mag that can be switch to 20 rounds ( in the event one forget to put back the plastic thing ) and back to 5 at will, doesn't seem legal to me.

Its fine just take it apart, clean it, put it back togeather.

havimg a gumed up mag is dangerous at best and is usually the cause of failure to feed , and in a sks this can lead to more serious problems . there are some tapco mags that are pinned on the side just like a ar mag and have the floor plate able to be removed , so the tapco mags that have the big bumper on the bottom you simply drill the hole to allow access to the floor plate then you need to remove the cross pin to get the plug out so you can flush or disassemble the mag for cleaning.

at this point some people leave the pin out and just replace the bumper plate and plug because the mag technically is still 5 rds, however home depot or rona sells aluminum chichago screws that can replace the pin thus returning it to origional condition . if you feel better put some blue locktight on the threads so if they check its NOT easily removed.

in the end how you maintain your equipment is your business oh and incidently pinned mags are easily converted with just a pocket knife you cut it off IF YOU WISH TO BECOME A CRIMINAL LMFAO public safety at its finest liberal logicical attempt.

Because they're new to the hobby and being cautious as a result...no wait! They're in disguise and trying to trap us, rat us out and have our guns taken away!:runaway:

i just wipe mine down with a damp shop towel, few hundred rounds in now and they haven't fallen apart or melted !!!..if they do, i'll buy more ! plastic isn't forever....and i still have the stock one :) good enough for me

:p Well, I've been shooting with my dad since the late 90's, and with my own rifle for a few years now. I just never took the time to be active on this website before 2 weeks ago.
The idea is that everybody seems to have drilled Tapco mags, I had a SKS for 3 years now and I still have doubts about doing it. It's not a big deal but to me having mag that is no longer "permanently altered" seems like caring potential trouble.
I was curious to know if someone had found some kind of loop hole, that would explain why everybody drill theirs...just in case I wasn't aware, as you noticed I'm not the most active guy online.

Never seen anybody drill out their rivets. I would look for a different group of shooters. Altering magazines is not only stupid it is going to get you into some deep trouble. Firearm violations are the most serious of all infractions in our Canadian legal system. Find better friends.

Drill the bottom plate I believe it is between the c and o to access the spring release tab, keep the pop rivet in.
Dry Silicone spray and a small rag push down the follower and pray it through the open bottom. replace bottom plate. done clean and slick as baby diaherea.
