is the 5th round hard to fit in the mag?
Not particularly, but then again, I'm a newbie - so who knows.
Actually, now that you mention it, the last round did tend to go in crooked when using the stripper clips, but it seemed ok when we were manually feeding them
Sounds like a pretty good hypothesis though. Thanks for the tip.
I'm thinking both the gun and mags just need to be broken in a bit more, but we'll see. Maybe those burrs even played a role in it.
try her out now that you'd have the burrs removed and and the magwell enlarged and see what happens. It's a very common sks problem where people don't let the bolt slam home by itself. remeber to pull back and le the thing slam as hard as it wants to close the bolt. if it still seems like the safety is on give the bolt a good smack forward withteh palm of your hand, it may not be all the way inter battery. if it's a constant problem, but only happens with 1 or 2 particular mags then it could be that it's pinned incorrectly or that you need to file the feedlips a bit the bolt may be catching on them.
watch for wear on the plastic mag. if you see wearing that will tell you where things are rubbing and likely where you need to remove material to smooth things out.
remember this is free adivice and only worth the price you paid for it. I do not claim to be an expert i just act like a know-it-all. lol
I'll gladly go back out to the range with you to test them out again...but this time you drive.
We were definitely letting it snap closed on it's own, but I did notice that it was somewhat "retarded" as compared with the snap on an empty mag.
I bet you're right, and it wasn't quite closed all the way.
Thanks again.
.....also for saying 'retarded'. A lovely use of the word!
Only if we can install your custom Bayo.
.....and/or use it as a hood ornament.
