taping up your muzzle while hunting?

danny45 said it right. People are way over thinking this as taping the muzzle makes no difference in accuracy or velocity of the round. Why are there 7 pages of this is what I'm wondering?

Oh I think this could go 14 pages or more.
We haven’t even gotten into just a wrap layer over the bore or a securing wrap around the barrel end too. And then we’ll have the whole clockwise vs counter clockwise debate to get into.

I do this all the time with no issues. We had plastic end caps for our C7s in Afghanistan, I never had a problem then either with shooting without taking the cap off.

Everyone knows you wrap clockwise to counteract coriollis force! Sheesh.

(Counter-clockwise in the souther hemisphere though)

I squeeze aluminum foil around the muzzle..it stays on and is visible enough that you can't miss it before you shoot.

I tried that once, but I started to get interference between the foil on the barrel and my tinfoil cap. Why would you need to make sure you didn't "miss it before you shoot"?

I have been watching The last Alaskans and when ever they hunt, their muzzles are always tapped up with black electrical tape, I am assuming it is safe to do or they wouldn't be doing it, what about accuracy?
I've never placed tape over the muzzle of my rifles while hunting, and never had any issues after 45 years of big game hunting. A hunter just has to be careful when out in the wilderness that no obstructions go down the barrel, besides, I know where my muzzle is at all times, in a safe place. "Every" evening after the day's hunt I "always" run a patch with the cleaning rod down the barrel. Any tiny obstruction or moisture will be removed.

I have hardly ever taped my barrel muzzles in over 45 years of hunting I have only once had an issue with getting something into a barrel and that was because I slide/tripped down an embankment resulting in the muzzle of the rifle jamming straight into the mud at the bottom.

Not saying it is not a good idea to tape up the muzzle but in all those years I've never worried about it also a warning for you tapers if you carry barrel down with the muzzle taped up in freezing weather be aware that water can freeze in the barrel.

All you have to do is get some snow and ice in your barrel one time to learn the virtue of taping the muzzle.
