Tarps

So looking at purchasing a better small tarp for in the hunting pack.
Mostly to throw up to get out of the rain on hikes if things get socked in or for a bit of relief when stopped to glass.
And of course to use as an emergency shelter if needed.

The two tarps I'm looking at one is the fancy nylon and silicon coated, and the other is ripstop with polyethtlene.
Both are the same size and the nylon is very slightly smaller packed. (Like 6cm so fairly irrelevant)
The nylon obvioulsy is a tad lighter but only but about 126 grams but still lighter.
Cost isn't too out there the nylon is $95 and the ripstop/poly is $65

Normally I'd go with the better nylon tarp but the thing is the colour. The nylon comes in orange or light gray while the ripstop/poly tarp comes in a green.

The green is obviously going to be a little less conspicious on the side of a hill.

Thoughts? ideas? I realise there are other tarps available but I have some money to put towards these two.

I picked up 3 of these many years ago to take camping. I always have one with me when I'm hunting. It gives me something to sit on to keep my a$$ dry, and if it's raining I drape it over my legs and tuck my rifle underneath. Primarily I drag it along as a quickie shelter if I have to spend a night in the bush.

The place I got mine doesn't seem to be in business anymore, but these look like the same thing. Biggest disadvantage is being nylon, sparks from the fire can melt holes in them. I think canvas would be too bloody heavy to lug around all the time.

I've bought tarps at all kinds of price points and they all seem to fail in short order.....

Silnylon is lighter and much stronger. Take care of it and it will last for years. Gray blends pretty well in nature. I'd personally go gray sil.

Sorry I guess i should rephrase my question.
I do realize there are a lot of different tarp options out there.

So, between the two for a hunting tarp:
Would you choose the better nylon tarp but in a grey colour, or the not as great tarp but in a better green colour?

I keep a canvas tarp in the Argo, but no way would I carry it in my pack. Its way too heavy. I keep a couple large garbage bags for emergencys.

I have an aquaquest silnylon 10x12 that came in dark green. Picks up smaller than a nalgene and has been super durable. Bought it on amazon I believe.

Silnylon at about 99 bucks is excellent. They weigh nothing and pack down to nothing and never rip or leak. I am converting all my camp fabric to silnylon. I went with the DST tarp from Seek Outside. It is a little more expensive but it allows a lot of configurations.

I’d go with the silnylon. This one from MEC is great and comes in dark green. The return policy at MEC is always something to consider when spending a few bucks on something that may or may not work for your needs...if you don’t like it even after years they will return it.

I don't shop there either, Down this way MEC is more of a yuppie hiking shop. I find that the store was fully of windbreakers and fancy water bottles.

I use a CF shelter half. It's big enough to make a 1 man hoochie, or use it for overhead cover in the rain. I've also used it to wrap up and pack out game.

Warbonnet Outdoors makes a silnylon version of the CF Ground sheet called the Ground Tarp. Again, like all silnylon it packs down to fit in a thigh pocket.
