I was thinking of getting one of those cheap Tasco rifle scopes with the illuminated crosshairs off of ebay. I was wondering if anyone here could chime in as to the quality of them or Tasco scopes in general. I am not looking for a high performance unit, I just want something cheap that I can play around with once in a while.

I have a Tasco Mag 3-9x32 rimfire scope on a semi-auto 22 and a World Class 2-7x32 on a No4 Enfield. There are clearer and brighter optics out there, but I have had no problems with either of them.

They are commonly referred to as trashco by many people that have used them.I have seen the point of impact shift by over 2" at 100 yards when the magnification was adjusted from 3x to 9x on a tasco scope.

I've got one of those, came from Hong Kong. What's the name of the eBay seller? I got mine from internetECO. Mine's held up fine so far, it's on an old Enfield so I'm not exactly nice to it, but no breakage. Time will tell, I suppose.

I've also got one of the Tasco Varmint 6-24x42mm mildot's on my SKS, and it's the same story. Nothing (and I mean NOTHING) rattles and bangs as much as an SKS, so if it'll survive on my rifle it'll survive on yours, guaranteed :p You can tell it's not a top-dollar scope, but I really don't care what people think of my optics choices, the fact remains that it works and is more than accurate for my purposes.

I bought a Tasco World Class in '84. It held up well on my .300WM, not to mention haveing my trike roll over it 3 times & losing it out of my Jepp while going down the Hwy.
I bough a few Tasco's in the early '90s & they where all POS's. All 5 mounted on various .308Win all broke the cross hairs within 100 rnds.

They are now owned by Bushnell.

Only Tasco I own is an EXP 3-9x 42/54 and its one solid scope. I had it on my Black powder shooting 150 grain charges and it held after near 50 rounds. I moved it to a .270 and held up and now a .270 wsm.
Given the choice I would buy a Leupold now but at the time I got the Tasco thats all I could afford. Its seen and taken some very nice bucks atop my various rifles.
Guys still have problems with Leupold, Nikon, Swarovski ect..nothing is 100%

Cheers!!

I agree with scott. On my big game rifles, there's no fooling around - it's Leupold or Burris for me. One day, I bought a 6-24x50mm nCstar and mounted it on my 22-250. What fun I've had with that outfit, and it shoots too with that cheap $50.00 scope. Bottom line is, I wouldn't put one on a big game rifle, but for gophers or shooting paper - go for it and enjoy.

I bought a Tasco scope three or four years back for a .223, that will be the last time I ever buy a cheap scope again. World class my a$$, maybe third world class  . It was a piece of turd.

Maybe I am spoiled from using high quality rifle scopes. But I myself would rather have high quality optics and a cheaper rifle than the other way around.

I no longer own any cheap glass and never will again.

I heard the older ones made in Japan were a lot better and the new ones are junk but maybe they're all crap. I have one made in Japan and have it on my FN L1A1. Seems to be all right but I would never put it on one of my hunting rifles (Leupolds only)

the only Tasco and I mean only I would ever buy for a big gun is the SS series

I bought a Tasco Varminter a while back. It's bad. It's very bad. BUT, once you get used to its many quirks, it gets the job done. I've shot many a 1/2" and better group with it.

It's since been retired. One of these days I'm gonna put a bullet through it :D

I'm a fan of Burris and Leupold myself.
Even my Simmons mag44 seems cheap compared to those other two.
I've looked through a few Tascos and I wasn't impressed.
Personally I'd rather wait and save for the better scope. Buy it right and buy it once.

suggestion for a bumper sticker:
Friends don't let friends shoot with Tasco :p

The variable I had would shift point of impact if you just thought about taking it out of the gunsafe, no kidding!

Had a 4x40 on a .22 and it was okay but I got rid of it too.

I have a Weaver variable on my .22 now and it is only marginal.

All the rest are Leupold (3)

I bought a new 4x Tasco way back, mail order from the States. It went on a 22/250 and no other rifle. One trip to the range and then I took it on a week long hunt away from home. On the first day of the hunt it rained hard. One the second day of the hunt the scope was too fogged to use.

In order to get a refund I had to ship back at my cost. All I got back was the sticker price for the scope .I was out the cost of shipping both ways and the duty.

Tasco igonored my letter about this situation, and I take every opportunity to spread the good word about Tasco and their customer service.
