Taurus 1911 at Gobles Firearms in London and Tillsonburg, Ontario?

Hi,

Gobles Firearms seems to have a good collection of products on their web site, and I am considering ordering a Taurus 1911 from them. Does anybody have experience in dealing with them? Do they provide good service? Do they back up their products with decent warranty?

I am quite interested in their Taurus PT1911s. But this company seems to offer an even bigger collection than Taurus USA themselves. This is a little strange. For example, they have all the calibers including .45, .40 and 9mm, and for each caliber they offer blued, stainless steel, blued with rail, and SS with rail. So there are a total of 12 different 1911 versions from Taurus.

It is a little hard to believe, because I can't find most of the options on the Taurus web site, where there is no mentioning of 9mm and .40 options.

Before I call them to ask about ordering, could anybody tell me anything about this company?

Yet another 1911 has to be a good thing....

How much are they? I'd like to get one & pound some 230 grain hardball down it & see how it stands up to the competition. Seems everyone is getting on the 1911 band wagon these days.

Does a heart good to see it....;)

And on the Taurus customer support... if indeed it sucks like everyone says... as long as the Taurus 1911 is mil-spec getting replacement parts, if required, shouldn't be much of an issue because 1911 parts are plentiful.

The web site says $788 for .45 ACP, blued version.
 
Do they have all these models in stock?

We've ordered a few and were told that the only model currently shipping is the blued .45 with stainless .45 shipping after Xmas. The other calibres are apparently vapourware. Again, just what I'm told.

Heck, for that kinda money you can get a Springfield Armoury 1911A-1 Mil-Spec stainless or GI 1911 from P&D [a CGN sponsor, BTW] for $750.... ;)

Well, it is all those extra parts that I have my eyes on. If I get a Springfield GI or Mil Spec, and install all those trigger, beaver tail, hammer, sights, guide rod, it will be well over $1,500 in total.

Yeah, you do have a point there... :redface:

But at least it wouldn't be a Taurus... :p
 
Spring another $120 and you can get a Kimber Custom II from S.I.R.

That's a small amount to pay for the level of support you'll get from Kimber and the quality of firearm you're buying.

Back to the orignal topic. I live in London, and the only reason I buy anything from Gobles is because I need it last minute... ie. out of ammo. They are not the best to deal with, But worse then that they are well overpriced on everything. I have saved on average over $200 per handgun buying it elsewhere.

Hey Trac, I have to concur with your opinion of Gobles. i too live in London and feel the same way about the pricing. Gobles has cornered the market for the last few years in the area. Any hints on reputable dealers in the area which handle handguns?

The Taurus 1911 goes for $499 in the US.
Cheaper importing it. Mind it got decent reviews and if you could get it for a decent price it should be a good contender for mid range 1911


The prices on the CZ line are ~ $80+ more than some of the fine dealers that support this site.
 
Agree with what has been said about Goubles; IMO their service is OK, but prices are a bit high comparing to other places... FYI they don't have any PT1911's in stock

Now about the Taurus 1911, all the reviews I've seen, have been positive all of them...
I’m definitely considering getting one in stainless when they come out. Btw aren’t Springfileds made in the same place as Taurus (i.e. Brazil)?

I have seen similar posts by other people who also own Colts, Springfields, Kimbers etc that said Taurus has been as reliable and accurate (or even more so) for a lot less money.

When I was doing my research I didn't run into the same conclusions.

Every personal experience is obviously going to differ and some folks will be more biased than others but here it is the way I see it:

Some guns are duds. You can get a lemon from most manufacturers, but you're more likely to get a lemon from a batch of cheap guns than you are from a batch of expensive guns.

Also, the guy you quoted had one experience with one gun. There could be multiple explanations for it... such as the Kimber not liking the ammo he's feeding to it, or perhaps he's using a crappy mag in it (I hear the Kimber factory mags aren't all that great supposedly), or the gun simply needs more time to loosen up. I'm by no means an expert (not by a looongshot) but the few 1911s I've handled have shown me that the cheapies are built to much looser tolerances than the big name moderately priced ones... someone correct me if Im wrong but this just means to me that the pricier tighter fitting units would just take a little longer to break in than the ones which are already loose from the factory.

Personally I like buying quality parts and products when it comes to my hobbies, and when the price difference between a Taurus and a Kimber with the same bells/whistles is only $150-250, I'd rather get the Kimber (or Springfield, or Colt, or whatever). Just my 2 cents.
