Saw an add in a mag about the new taurus pistol. Comes in either 9mm, .40 or .45 acp. Nice looking pistol. Wondering if anyone here had a chance to try one out? Looks like a small factory under barrel rail mount for add ons too. Looks like they would make a good choice. Would the 9mm version take same mags as the beretta clone or beretta 92 ?

I don't think the OSS version is out yet. But you can get a regular 24/7 (4.13in) they are quite afordable $550-600.

About the mags I'm pretty sure 24/7 and PT92 /92FS mags aren't intechangable. Even 92FS and PT92 aren't interchangable; but I heard beretta mags work in taurus or the other way around lol...

had a chance to try out my buddys 24/7 last week. Not sure if it was a lemon or not but it was a peice of crap. First 50rnd through it was ok, but after that it would not feed or eject any more. With just 5rnds in the mag we would be luck if we can get 2rnds off in a row. empty casings would not eject and get jammed between the slide. We tried 5 different types of ammo and not one of them would work with it.

The 24/7 .45 had some issues. Not the .40S&W or 9mm. The new production ones(.45) seems to be ok. That's what I have read. By the way, does the standard 24/7 falls under restricted or prohibited category? The barrel length is 104mm.

Given the abundance of polymer pistols that sell in the $600-700 range, why in the world would you want a Taurus?

24/7 is restricted only as bbl is 108mm according to Taurus or 134mm for the long slide version. The 24/7C is the compact and will not be appearing in Canada as its a Prohib. The OSS has yet to hit the US shelves in any quantities and that means it will be at least a year before we see it in Canada. The early 24/7 in 45 had problems that were caused by the mag but a design rectified that and the 45 is gaining a reputation that is favorable. Models with a serial prefix prior to NZG were the ones with the flaw. There are numerous folks carrying the 24/7 as a CCW and it is a fine piece despite what some folks tend to believe. Most of the nay sayers have no experience with the brand and are only repeating what is often 3rd party opinion. Having said that, Taurus' reputation in Canada is tarnished by the lack of customer service and the reluctance to recitify any problems by the distributor who shall remain nameless but is very well known.
Given the pricing of them here in Canada, there are other fine choices available with outstanding customer service backing them as alternates, but the 24/7 is indeed a fine firearm.

it's restricted...106mm barrel...

daBear has hit the nail on the head. If anyone what's to know how good or bad the gun really is go to taurusarmed.net and ask the people who actually own them...;) 24/7 was 2005 NRA handgun of the year. I’ve handled a few and they seem on pair in quality with guns that cost few hundred $ more.

That comment is just plain ignorant; first of all 24/7 sells for $549-599 depending on the finish not $700, and it's about choice not the price or brand. Personally I prefer my M&P but 24/7 has some very good and unique features like excellent ergonomics, DA/SA (hammerless) with second strike and C&L capabilities. It’s also smaller than most restricted (stock) guns.

Taurus is a discount brand. In the states, they are practically given away for free and the quality reflects that. Just type "taurus 24/7" problem into google and you'll see what I mean. Seeing how getting Taurus parts is next to impossible in Canada, I question the wisdom of buying an unserviceable gun with a spotty track record when more reliable/serviceable pistols can be had for only $50-100 more.

If you do a search you can find problems with ANY gun out there; incuding custom guns that cost thousands of dollars!

Discount brand? why because Taurus doesn't charge hundreds of dollars for a brand name?

Surely that has nothing to do with the fact that Taurus spends more money advertising in American Handgunner than anyone else...
I don't read American handguner but I don't remember seeing Taurus ads in other magazines just the usual; Glock, Kimber, HK...

Sure, every gun maker lets a lemon slip through the QC every once in a while. What matters is the frequency of such occurrences.

Because when you sell a gun for $325 (which is what the 24/7 retails for in the U.S.) you've got to cut some corners to remain profitable.

Maybe that's the reason why those other magazines didn't pick Taurus as their gun of they year :D

P.S. And I'm sure the fact that Taurus sponsors free NRA memberships also had absolutely nothing to do with NRA's choice...

OR maybe the cost of manufacturing in Brazil is low enough to privide a good quality product for an affordable price... ;)

My experiance with Taurus has been great, what is your experiance with Taurus guns?

No problems with mine either, eats what ever I feed it and is as accurate as I can be with a handgun. Which I might add is adequate.
In this case I think that cheaper may be better.

Taurus guns are made on CNC machines. I doubt the cost of labor is a major factor. Your experience is limited to one gun, which means that it is anecdotal and largely irrelevant. What is relevant is that when you experience a part breakage, getting it fixed will be a major pain in the ass.

By the way, aren't you the guy who kept complaining about HK and Sig being overpriced in Canada? I figured you'd be the first to point out that paying $600 for a gun that sells for $325 in the US seems like a bit of a ripoff.

Where did you get that figure 108mm? Taurus's website and their online manual claims it as 4.125"(104mm). A member of another forum actually measured it and it was 104mm. Is there a special barrel for Canada? I am thinking of buying one. Any dealers here?

I bought a Taurus 24/7 in .45 even though there were earlier version complaints about it regarding FTF's. When I purchased mine I had read that this issue had been solved by a new clip design. It must have been solved because I have yet to have an issue with mine. It works very well.

there is no special barrel for Canada, apperintly the standard 4in is actually 4.13in or 106mm...

Not quite, besides owning one Taurus handgun (and a number of others from different manufacturers) I've also shot PT92 and handled couple other revolvers - 66 and tracker as well as 24/7 in 9mm and .45... But if that is "anecdotal and largely irrelevant" than what can be said about your experiance? Which is as far as I know is NONE.

Having a Sig myself I do think Sigs and HK's are overpriced and not just in Canada! Sure the prices we pay here are a ripoff, but at least with Taurus you save on brand name mark up and just pay just for the gun.
