Taurus or Smith & Wesson

Sorry but what's that have to do with either .44 mag or .454 casull recoil or availability?

.... let me think a bit. if i can reload my own ammunition, that makes it available to me. with harder to find rounds such as the 454, 460, 500 it makes alot more sense to reload. even with 44 you can save tons of money.

as for recoil, well there is another thing of beauty with reloading. i can adjust the recoil to what is comfortable.

is that an acceptable response oh great one????

Oh I don't think the OP had thought about or knew anything about reloading. Lol.

it's always an option, and as i point out a huge cost savings, pending on what you load, then again you typically just shoot more. i wouldn't have bought the 500 if i didn't reload.

I am planning on reloading, but brass is hard to find most of the time. So I might have to buy some factory ammo first and then reload those.

Is there that much difference in recoil?

from my experience, limited, the 454 is comparable to a hot 44 give or take. didn't hurt my hand, lots of noise. the 1 time i fired a 460 it was a 5" with a factory hornady round and it was about the same as the 500 i fired in an 8" barrel. again factory hornady.

i shot 27 rounds of 500 (various weight, mostly 350) and 4 days later i can still feel a very very minor pain in my hand, but only if i push on it.

i'm waiting for my 600 grain mold from mihec, i would have opted for the 700, but they didn't have a group buy going.

Buy only the S&W and don't even think about the Taurus. In this case you really do get what you pay for.

This absolutely THIS! Theree is no comparison between a Tuarus and any S&W.

And if you are looking for .454 casull why not go with a S&W .460V? It can shoot .460S&W, .454 casull (which is VERY tame in this size revolver) and .45LC as well.

This is a lot more versatile option if you want to shoot .454 in a revolver.

Get both just to be safe....

That happened a few years back. It was a taurus copy of a Winchester model 63, and I was using remington ammo.
I think that it fired out of battery. the bolt blew up, blowing pieces out in front of my face. It could have been bad, as I shoot left handed, and the bits blew right past my face and eyes. Luckily, no damage to me.
Never thought to take pictures, but I wish now that I had. I sent the rifle back to SIR in Winnipeg, and they cedited me on a new purchace.
Never ever will I own another Taurus
