Tavor 21 vs/or X95?

"The TAR21 has more aftermarket stuff than the X95"

I honestly think this is because the X95 doesn't need it. It comes from the factory with a lightweight quad rail, you can fit a real bipod on it, etc.

I like the podium more tbh. It's really out of the way and I added a longer handguard to my Tavor because I like to grip as far forward as I can. I don't even use it for mounting accessories.
On the X95, there's no aftermarked extended handguard that I'm aware. So I'm stuck with keeping my hand further back, and since the point of balance is further forward on the X95, it handles slightly more awkwardly for me personally.

Manitcore makes the cantilever handguard for the X95 which will give you that bit of extra reach if you want it. It's not my thing because I like the keep the weight as low as possible and I havent seen any accuracy issues so I really don't find much wrong with the original. I mean, the whole point of the TAR's aftermarket handguards was to give you rail space, which the X95 already has.

TAR21 all day, but my opinion is biased as mine is for sale lol. I conquer with the better accuracy as well. There was even a guy on here who modded his Tar21 to a full floating barrel to even better increase accuracy.

Have you got a link to that?

I'm curious if he upgraded the barrel to something thicker as well

Everything I've read and watched on youtube put the Tar 21 at a significant accuracy advantage, so that would be my choice. To me that's the most important thing. Plus it's less money, which does matter to some especially if it won't be their primary rifle. You can get accessories to resolve most of the shortcomings of the rifle, trigger probably being the most important. For the difference in cost you can get a geissele trigger and maybe a manticore arms or similar frontend.

The x95 is a better design ergonomically imo. It's too bad the accuracy isn't there compared to the Tavor. And they're much harder to come by used given they're still newish. Buying a new one will cost you 1k+ than a used tavor.

I can't really explain the common youtube results as mine has been quite accurate, possibly better than my TAR. I also have one with all the newest changes (IDF charging handle, dual extractor, etc) so if there were accuracy issues, they've fixed them.

I think the problem is more about the design. Here’s my thoughts:

Do you guys notice how the front piece of the TAR21 has a U bracket that constantly pushes down onto the barrel? I’ve tried removing this piece and it’s worse for accuracy. X95 doesn’t have such U bracket(it’s got a ring and it doesn’t apply any force except loosely touching the barrel). My theory is that on TAR21 the consistent pushing down of the barrel may have a stabilizing effect on such thin barrel. Even though it’s counter intuitive to the free float barrel idea of modern day precision rifle, it’s still better than X95’s loose/rattling front handguard attachment. Something along the lines of preventing excessive barrel whip. And holy cow these thin barrels have wandering zero from different ammo and barrel temperature (side wandering so it’s not just bullet velocity differences). But for what it is, I’m 100% pleased with the weight savings.

Just my 2 cents

Another vote for the lightning bow + trigger pack upgrade REGARDLESS of platform.. :) (I tried it, but havent upgraded in mine yet)

Get one in FDE, and get a reverse style can (couple of styles below - pick the one you like the best) :)

That was my experience with the TAR as well. I dont think it exerts pressure, as I always got bes results from not touching the handguard at all, but I think it just interferes minimally. That bracket is there to make sure the polymer-handguard-mounted IDF front sight isn't totally useless.

The thing about the X95 though is that it has a barrel cutout under the handguard. This is meant for a locking detent ring for the IDF chargng handle, which the early commercial X95s did not have - instead they had a weird polymer block that sort of slotted in to make sure things fit kinda ok without the intended piece. The newer X95's have the ring that fits in that cutout and everything locks up nice and tight, which I suspect is why I get better than reported accuracy out of mine.

Could it not be as simple as different barrel or barrel manufacturer?

FWIW, I got hands on a tavor and the trigger is absolute garbage. I view a trigger upgrade as mandatory. It's the Worst trigger over ever used. Get a tavor for better accuracy but plan on spending another $400-600 for the trigger.

The factory TAR21 trigger is match grade.... compared to my AUG. If you want to complain about a terrible trigger try one of those. These modern drop in AR triggers have spoiled everybody. I found just replacing the Tavor trigger with the lightening bow was good enough for me.

It depends on the trigger, the first gen factory trigger was pretty rough. The Gen 2.5 trigger is serviceable and see little reason to replace it. I think the X95 trigger is actually quite good.

You just did the bow and not the whole trigger pack? I can't imagine it would make a huge difference on its own...if wrong please enlighten me. I'd read about the trigger but now feel an upgrade is a must. Don't have an Aug but right now it's the worst trigger I've ever pulled and I will certainly upgrade sooner rather than later.

I actually feel that the geissele lightening bow did more then their trigger pack did on my X95. I had to do the pack first because the bow was back ordered, and I had to wait for an import for the bow. And I really feel like adding the bow made a bigger difference

I am not sure if anyone else had the same experience

I have both the 2.5 gen tavor and the x95 oem with a pistol gripp idf style, i prefer the ergonomics of the x95 all the way but people tends to prefer the tavor 21 because its more accurate
