How does a 1-4 defeat the idea of CQB in a bullpup?
I'm not grasping what you don't like about it for short range shooting that you find a fixed 3x resolves?
My biggest issue with a 1-4 compared to a RDS for CQB is that the 1-4 (or any magnified optic) has a set eye relief distance so when you are shooting in different positions the rifle still has to be tucked into your shoulder. When I was shooting modified prone in the CQB class I went to this summer it was much easier with my AR that had the aimpoint PRO than it was with my other AR that had a Hi-Lux CMR 1-4. With the Aimpoint I just set the rifle wherever it was comfortable and looked through and had a good sight picture, with the 1-4 I had to shorten the stock and pull the rifle in close which was more awkward and slower. Both work but in some situations the red dot is far easier to use. The RDS is also more forgiving when you go from low ready to firing position quickly. Take the target out to 100 yards and my preference changes though.
