Tavor FAQ (updated 08 December, 2008)

Just had my new one out the other day, found a LH bolt on the EE and switched everything over. Put around 600 rds through it, (LAR mags)norc 556, AE, and mfs. No failures at all except i noticed the norc brass splitting a bit lengthwise at the mouth of the casing, never noticed on any other brands. Should this be a concern or just blame it on cheapo norinco? Other than that, this is probably my new favorite toy.

Just speaking for myself, I've never experienced or heard of this - so I'd put my money on the ammunition. Glad you're enjoying it! :D

I just picked up a flat top tavor and have a couple questions. Is the barrel chrome lined? I know the twist is 1:7 The chamber looks like it may be....

Also I noticed that when doing dry firing, the bolt has to be released fairly briskly to go fully into battery. Will this become easier in time or is it somethingI have to always be mindul of?

thanks!

Just posting this here (a complete list of Tavor parts with ID number; thanks to North Sylva for making this available).

I've got one of the new 2012 flat top Tavors. Was interested in adding the NEA aluminum handguard. Obviously, I don't need the flat top portion of the NEA set. NEA has the set marked down. Just wondering if it will work for the newer models or should I save my money? If it will work, how exactly is it installed? Any help would be appreciated.

Yeah, the handguard should work. The real question is whether it offers any benefit over the existing handguard? My thinking is no, considering the factory one is probably lighter and has a handstop. If it were me, I'd probably put the money into something like ammo, a Tritium post for the front sight, a decent muzzle brake... But to each their own, and if you like the look and feel you shouldn't have any problems with it.

Front post of my flat top integrated buis is tritium!

Well I bent the charging handle rod. Any idea what part number that would be??

007040110 GUIDE-COCKING

Did you try removing your barrel without removing the charging rod first? Yes, it's 007040111 "Cocking Handle Bar" (007040110 reads as "Cocking Handle Guide Screw Assembly"). I'm resourceful. What can I say. :D

North Sylva should be able to confirm though.

PS. If anyone else has any Tavor parts questions, please feel free to PM me (the list from North Sylva doesn't provide adequate descriptions, and without illustrations to reference...)

I can tell I wasnt the first person to do this lol.

I bent er back into shape with some elbow grease. Should be "good nuff"

I should have a present to show off next week because of it. Depends how fast my design guy works ;)

It's kind of a dumb design, but there must be some rationale for it (although other than preventing a 30-second barrel change, I don't know what that would be). As long as some of the rod is "left" you should be good-to-go. ;) Can't wait - post pictures! Any hints to tease us...?

Hopefully Mr.TV-Press Pass will come up with detailed takedown/maintenance video soon ;)

Actually, if you scroll back to the first page or two in this thread - there is a fairly comprehensive set of takedown instructions (including how to reconfigure for a LH bolt). As for maintenance, the Tavor is really not that dissimilar from an AR15. Frog Lube is your friend. :D
