Tavor FAQ (updated 08 December, 2008)

Got my rifle today!! Yehhheeeeyyyyyyyy!!!
Metal mags works great and drops free, the pmags on the other hand tend to stick a bit. Any tips?

Also do they dip these rifles in oil?? Spent half an hour wiping it clean.

Secret is metal mags that drop free are better than pmags that stick! Some guys put empty mags back in pouch right away, so I can see the pmag being a good choice.

I prefer ripping fast mag changes. Strong hand hits mag release and while mag is dropping free weak hand slams fresh mag in, weak hand thumb hits bot catch...ready to fire...never left shooting position, never took eyes off target

It was cool to watch the videos by TV-Press Pass, but I'm still curious about the accuracy that people are getting out of this rifle.

One of the most accurate shots I know said that he had an opportunity to play around with one of these but found the rifle he fired very difficult to shoot accurately even off a bench due to the trigger pull, claiming something along the lines of 8" groups at 100 yards. I would be satisfied with 2-3" with standard ammo, but would like to know how many people get that accuracy or better. Since it's main appeal to me is its non-restricted status, how effective are they on coyotes and varmints at 200m and beyond?

This rifle is very appealing, and while I understand why it won't achieve the same accuracy as most ARs, I'd hate to put a down payment on an incoming shipment only to find that I'll get a lemon

Any thoughts?

MOST ARs will be a 2-3 MOA firearm which is the milspec they are meeting. SOME are more accurate not most. It is a service rifle not a varmint gun but up to 200m you should be fine if you are a good shot. If you can't get 2-3 MOA out of a TAR-21 something is wrong...usually shooter is the problem.

TV-PressPass , I was watching some of your videos and noticed that you shooting off of a Eberlestock bag. Does the Tavor fit in the integrated scabbard with an optic ? Or is the scabbard too narrow?

Generally if I have a full sized optic on there I don't have a magazine in. With a red dot you can easily have a magazine in the rifle and fit it in. Either way, the entire setup fits inside the gunslinger II no problem.

Funny, I was just going to ask about options for a case or a bag,,,.
Anything else commonly available and forgiving on the wallet?

I use a hockey bag most days. Makes a great range bag and doesn't freak out the neighbours.

I keep meaning to look at the Tasmanian Tiger rifle cases and see if one of them will fit reasonably well. They're all reasonably priced and solid quality.

I apologise first off if this was discussed earlier. My search fu is pretty bad. But is there a way to change my sight from the 21 to a rail of some type? Or is it cost prohibitive.

Its super easy. Do you have a Gen 1 Tavor already? All the new ones come with Pic rails.

Dlask and Canada Ammo used to have lots of short rail and flattop options. Those are harder to find these days.

But once you've got a rail its not hard to take the mepro off and put a new one on.
