Tavor FAQ (updated 08 December, 2008)

I noticed there are more and more parts available for Tavors south of the border, but I am having a hard time finding online retailers that sell / ship to Canada. What a waste.

you should also make sure the parts for the SAR21 (american tavor) actually fit the tar21 (Canadian tavor), from what i understand some parts won't work in both! take this advice with a grain of salt....

What parts were you meaning? Zahal now has Gearhead works TMF and FLEx swivels, as well as the TREx lower rail. More to come I am sure, but just give them a heads up for what you are looking for.

Anyone here try any of the third party hand guards? I've been thinking about ordering the MWI XL hand guard, but the FDE doesn't match to well. Any feedback on the MWI or gear head?

I want to get the forearm picatinny rail for my Tavor that IWI US has on their site for $25, but they do not ship to Canada "yet". The one on the Zahal site is $64.

Now I have ordered a number of firearms related items from the US, most recently my GearHead Works Flex Mount. With IWI US not shipping to Canada, can I have my buddy who lives in the US order it and have him send it to me as I'm not sure if it's just IWI current practice of not shipping to Canada?

I obviously want to keep everything above board here for sure.

There would have been no attempt to smuggle it. I would have had written down what it was on the declaration, but I wanted to get clarification on here if I could and I now have.

I did read in Q4/A4 that it says that if its less then $100 it allows an exemption from the import order for none significant parts and I wouldn't consider a picatinny a significant part, but is it?

Anyone else have thoughts?

Thanks for the information,

Doesn't matter what you write on the package. If you attempt to smuggle controlled goods out of the US you are breaching ITAR.

The exemption only applies to Registered Exporters which, as a Canadian, you cannot be. It's only an exemption from the registered exporter having to get an export license for a specific shipment, it is NOT an exemption from the obligation to be registered with the Department of State for both the exporter AND the manufacturer.

Newb here... Just for clarification are current Canadian Tavors shipping wit the Canadian/Israeli BCG and trigger pack or did they switch over to the US one? What are the differences/advantages?

Tavors for sale in Canada use Israeli parts. There is a slight differences between the American and the Israeli bcg I think if I remember correctly. However I am unsure what it is. You will have to probably wait for TVPP to chime in on the differences. Would the differences be substantial enough to make one far superior over the other? I highly doubt it. A lot of the parts for the American Tavor are Israeli made anyways.

Anyone? Is this something I should be concerned about or is it normal? Could someone take out their bolt carrier and test a USGI and Gen3 Pmag (with 1 round)?

Because the mags are pushing the bolt catch slightly upwards it does not mean that they are going to damage your bolt or bolt catch.
I would suggest you to load your mags with the dummy rounds, pull the charging handle back and just slowly move it forward (don't let go the charging handle as you would chamber a round) and as the bolt goes forward and grabs the round see if the bolt passes by the bolt catch without touching it. If the bolt catch does not interfere with the bolt's movement then there is no reason for any damage or malfunction.
I've fired couple of hundred rounds with gen2 Pmags in my Tavor and had no problems at all, also there is no wear or damage neither on the bolt or bolt catch.
I don't think there is a need to modify perfectly fine Pmags.
