Had a friend tell me over coffee that there is a huge push to move the Tavor to restricted status. RCMP are lobbying all sorts of groups and Govt to do this. I know the RCMP want no Canadians owning firearms but I can see a potential move to restricted on bullpups. Is there a good chance of this happening.

Well, if history teaches us anything, the RCMP wouldn't ask permission to change a firearm's classification.

The firearms lab does whatever they want anyway so it won't matter.

unless the legislation we were promised by the PSM does not have enough teeth to restrict RCMP powers on the matter and prevent future governments from reverting back to the old system or worse........Anything is possible.

If you are worried about it/can not afford the financial loss, then sell all your guns now so you don't stress out.

His friend probably reads this forum. every 2 days another gun is going restricted or prohibited according to people on here. Someone else reads that then propagates the misinformation until it returns back on here.

They can't classify it as restricted its not a variant of anything currently restricted and it has a barrel of over 18 inches, most probably they would reclassify it prohibited but then on what grounds? Lots of people own tavors that are not RPALs, this would be another mess like the cz/swiss mess which would require Blaney to sign off on it, he learned his lesson last time, very little chance of this happening with the current government regardless of what the RCMP wishes to do.

Yeah, and sling shots are next.

The Tavor has been on the RCMP hit list for sometime and was listed on that document that was printed here back in Feb when we had the swiss and VZ crap go down.

But if we had to worry about every gun we feared that would go to restricted or Prohib status we would own very few. I am still saving for a Tavor.;)

This is just a discussion fellows "RELAX", I did a search on Tavor/resticted on this sub section and nothing came up for me..ZERO so its not a common thing to read on here.

They can't prescribe it as Restricted. It does not meet the criteria as set out in the FA unless they start selling them with shorter barrels. And then that will just create a new FRT # number for that version and would not affect the other rifles.

All they can do within their mandate, is find some way to make one go full auto, or fire without the stock. Then they can "correct" their prior decision to make it Non-Restriced and re-classify it as Prohibited as they have done with other firearms recently. I'm sure they are trying pretty hard

It would require an OIC to make any firearm with a current FRT#, that meets the current definition of non-restricted, restricted.

I dont see the Tavor going restricted. The only rifle that restricted because of what it is is the AR15 and the only reason the AR is restricted is because the NFA fought to keep it from going prohibited with c-68. So saying that, if anything changed on the Tavor, it would get prohibited, but again, I dont see that happening.
