TCRC Precision Long Range .22LR Match (April 22, 2012)

Hirsch Precision carries SK and more of the Lapua stuff. The Lapua Super Club that Target Shooting Products carries is the same stuff.

It was a good turnout again given the Season. And once again, we didn't get a drop of rain and wind conditions were pretty nice.

Congratulations to the winners, Kris D, Micheal F. and Daniel M. (our first Custom Semi winner). Thanks to our Grill Masters -> Ken T. and Joe K.

Not sure if a match will be held in Nov. yet, let me know if there is any interest.

Twin City November Rimfire

Hello Kris,

I'm in for a November match. It cannot be on Nov 14th because of a conflict with the Sporting Clays match that I have already committed to at TCRC.:)

Michael

Will there be a November match? I'd be interested in this... just reading about it now - but I love shooting my 22 and would like the opportunity to play with it.

Kris,
Ya should have been there today!!! COLD ,sunny and WINDS!!!!
Thank goodness I put the heater on in the trailer to warm up in between strings.

KRIS,
Jimmy H sitting here and wanted me to post this to you.
Pick a Sunday morning date in November and December for RF Match.
Since some issues have been challenging to see hits at 300 yrds, suggestion to have 100 and 200 yard benchrested 22 RF Match and still doable if it snows.
Call me about optional targets as we can use the ones that were used for the centerfire
prone precision and save some target costs.
If it's CCCCOld ,we can just serve coffee or HC in the heated reloading trailer and not worry about BBQing anything!!
Gord

I'd still like to do 300... I have some targets left, plus some that I've patched. We need to find a solution to the visibility problem. It's fine with a good spotting scope (usually), and should be in the crisp, cold air.

I was thinking of creating a template that could be put on a big white sheet. Then lines would be created with a quick shot of paint or something. Need to look into some printing options too...

Nov/Dec. Match

I'd be interested in a Nov/Dec match...January for that matter if it's a weekend I'm available to shoot. I've never done anything past 50 and would like to start getting some experience.

Kris,
Large white sheet of paper (semi matte gloss -rolls at dollar store buck per roll)
1- 3" orange center for POA.
Use a clear plastic "overlay" with rings to score which saves having to make all the targets.
The 3" center gives MOA distance estimate on target and the white paper makes holes easier to spot.
May have to "start" time a wee bit later in morning to allow more sun (optimist) to come out and shine on targets and burn off fog.
Now in the fall ,the afternoon sun is perfect :)
We thought about making rings on the 300 target but if they are thick enough to be seen at firepoint they are thick enough to "hide" a 22 hole.
Just a thought.
Got that 10/22 ready?
Gord

Still waiting on my 60 MOA base to arrive for the 10/22...

We tried the orange dot on the back of targets. We then just turned them around to score them. People didn't like not having the rings for reference. Perhaps putting rings on a re-usable overlay would be an idea. Put the dot on the sheet and pin the overlay over it... The holes in the white paper should be more visible than the holes in the clear overlay.

Maybe there is a cheap way of creating DIY shoot-n-see that can be done....

Weather forecast Sun am -1c wc -6 partially cloudy with mostly sun, winds out of the west at 15kph
Jim and I will show up sometime in am but with his busted ribs I'm not sure he's up to much shootin.
Also have to leave by 11 ...but will be there.
Need to test new spotter.
Gord

Went anyways:)
Although a little chilly, confirmed winter weather comeups. Saw a little more than typical
vertical spread ,but acceptable.
Maybe see you on the 5th
Gord

Match is tomorrow, remember to dress warm.

For every match so far, the weatherman has predicted doom and gloom and so far he has been wrong each and every time. Let's hope the trend keeps up! Windy is fine, that keeps it challenging...

Hope to see a bunch of you out there!

Turnout was lower than usual, but that was an error on my part scheduling the match on the same day as a popular gun show. It was the most challenging match to date and I'm looking forward to doing another in the not too distant future.

When we arrived and began setting up there was nearly no wind. We thought it was going to be a cake walk. No such luck! The wind picked up and changed directions constantly with gusts up to 25 MPH and occasional light snow. The snow turned out to be a bit of a blessing as it served as a great tool for reading the wind (winter mirage). People also noticed a large difference in the performance of their ammo in the cold weather and the additional elevation required to reach the targets. Always a good thing to allow for some additional scope travel in colder weather...
