Well I'll be damned.

I was wrong!

Mind you, the barrel is 16" so a semi modification would render it restricted :(

Interesting......very interesting.....

If they do a conversion kit, maybe there will be a "Non-restricted" conversion kit, that either comes with a longer barrel (excuse my ignorance, but I'm not sure if you swap barrels easily from this receiver) or a 2 and a half inch flash hider, that can be welded.

I love how this went from being a rumour, to one of the best Canadian rifle ideas ever, to being complete s--t, to being even better than before (if this modifying to SA pans out).

I hate to see this thread go wild again with speculation about a 'conversion kit' when the rifle hasn't even been officially released to the retailers.
Heck we don't even know the detailed mechanical function of it yet or parts used, aside from the style of action, as released to the public.

I'm patiently waiting, saving my nickles and dimes in the meantime.

Once they're out I'll be able to do some detailed analysis to see how close the CSR is to an AK. If something like the receiver is bent a millimeter narrower that would preclude drop-in replacement anything, for instance. I can't see that being the case because it would require entirely new or modified trunnions, rivets, and FCG but we'll see.

It's not as simple as changing the barrel on an AR, a hydraulic press is usually required though there exists a clever barreling/debarreling tool that uses threaded rods and a wrench to accomplish it. Within reach of the home builder? Absolutely. Tons of specialty AK tool makers in the States and unlike gun parts, they'll ship them to Canada.

Technically, yes.

Since the firearm has been built and approved as a bolt action, if the receiver remains identical, even the importer could technically just sell semi-autos that have been manufactured using the same "BA" receiver, without the need for new verification/classification.

Or he could just sell "semi-auto modification kits".

Either way, this means we should have a semi-auto version of this rifle without any hickups.

Now, all we need are proprietary magazines for the bolt action that hold 30 rounds. Dare I dream? :dancingbanana:

I would argue, technically no - they would be running around with semi auto Interarms Sporter 2013. I say that because apparently the rifle has been based off of some other rifle action, not the AK. I suppose people would be running around with semi auto AK look-a-likes. That said, I hope this all pans out; as I'm sure others have said, it probably would not be overly hard to modify it to a semi if the gas tube and all that business is in place.

I just hope it is as reliable as the AK platform.

Ben

Interesting, thanks for the info.

fenceline, I think it's a big hint that the magazine capacity, if any, is close to 2 rounds. :p Seriously, who knows?

Very bizarre marketing scheme for the rifle.

I predict a media hysteria campaign once the brain dead morons that pass for journalists these days 'discover' it. :p

I would be surprised if the media raises a stink over it. I could see them calling it a loop hole if they release a semi auto version though (even if it isn't a loop hole).

Have you seen the crap global has been grasping at to get attention? This would become public enemy #1 to them. Bet money on stinks being raised.

The amusing part is they are powerless to stop any of it.

I love how it would highlight the stupidity of our laws.

If there is one thing gun owners and antis agree on it is this: a gun is a gun is a gun.

The only difference is they want them all gone, and we want them all.
