Have they said they are planning on bringing in a semi version? I highly doubt this is the gateway to the semi. I don't think they will allow it, they banned a .22 that "looked" like an AK with no similar parts..
Yes, they have said that is the long term plan. And yes they have said they first wanted to get the SPBAR in as part of that long term business plan.
While it is correct that the Armi Jager AP80 is not a variant of the standard AK in the mechanical sense, it is however a direct variant of the Mitchell AK22 which is on the AK47 named prohib list. This is how they went after it as being a prohib. Not that it was similar to the AK47, but that it was a variant of another named "AK47" on the prohib AK47 list.

The Mitchell AK-22 was actually a Armi Jager AP80, but had different name plates. Mitchell didn't manufacture guns, but rather had Armi Jager make and brand the guns for Mitchell.
