or buy one and add a real gas block + piston and now you have a semi auto ...
If they ever come in it's going to be very interesting to hear all the crying about the streets being flooded with full auto AK-47 Assault Rifles. And FYI I'm in for one of these and am hoping for a semi to follow. Not too sure why it wouldn't be a semi right off the bat! but I'm in anyway. Hope UT's contact list is still good as I think I was very near the top.
You got one already that you've done that to? Did AK parts fit? 47 or 74? Did they fit right on or did it take some smithing? Can you show us how it's done? Please!
pretty certain they have gone through steps to please the RCMP making sure It cant easily be converted to sem auto, I doubt youll be able to drop a block on there and a piston and go blasting away with a semi auto, im sure the barrel is either to large or small in diameter for that, I know from experience you cant drop just any block on any AK they have diff sizes from diff countries.

IF they ever come in there is no way that a semi would be allowed in, the mags from the bolt action would fit the semi. We can dream, but that's all it ever will be.
Not exactly how it works. Has already been discussed why it would work. If the SPBAR is legal, it will be because it isn't similar internally to a real AK. Therefore if the SPBAR design was modified to semi, it still wouldn't be an AK variant as it still wouldn't have internals of an AK.
I don't doubt the internals are different,, but if the mags work in the straight pull bolt action version they are also likely to work in a semi. That's just one of the reasons why I don't think we will ever see a semi automatic version in Canada.
PS, I have doubts that we will see the straight pull version either.
PPS, Remember the CZ 858 ?

I was under the impression this straight-pull version was to take AK mags, which are magazines designed for a semi-auto centre-fire and thus limited to 5 rounds already. There is no angle trying to be exploited. For you to have unlimited rounds for your straight pull rifle, the magazines must be designed & marketed for use in only such a rifle. The AK magazines do not meet this criteria. They are designed to be used in a semi-auto centrefire and this firearm was designed for compatibility with such magazines.
When it comes to magazine classification, the firearm the magazine is actually used in is irrelevant. It is the intended original purpose of the magazine, or any subsequent marketing by the manufacturer that will determine its class in the eyes of the RCMP.
In this case...since the magazines are already limited to 5, there is no fear the world will end if they brought in a semi....because there's no 30 round floodgate to be opened if such a firearm is introduced.
Magazines and firerms are classified seperatly in the Firearm Act.
Guns are non-restricted, restricted and prohib.
Mags are either "prohibited" or "unregulated" in the Act.
If a semi-auto version is introduced for inspection, classification will have nothing to do with what mags may fit.
The 858 has not been reclassified. And the import block will have had nothing to do with magazine issues.
True, You just can't buy an 858 anymore.
We can still legally possess what we have. For the time being at least![]()
Regardless, it is a little off topic. None of what is occurring with the cz858 imports has anything to do with the pending classification of a newly made, newly designed gun.
I think it has everything to do with it, they would rather we did not have access to either.
^^^ very good point, lets stop trying to see conspiracies everywhere, hell we haven't even seen the report on the swiss yet, so...Hence why the revamped Type 97 is now being received at dealers doors ready to ship. If what you say is true of the conspiracy, the Type 97 wouldn't be here. And neither would the pending Famae 540 series.
