Tell me more about this military badge!

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but I would think that the number would be a serial number for the badge itself. Much easier to do it like that, then register each badge as it was issued.

I'm with smellie on this one. While the number is the same, it is just a coincidence. It would have been a very difficult task to specifically number thousands of small pins and then distribute them to the vets. I know that the WWII ones are serialized and those numbers do not match the vet's regimental number. As far as I know, there is no easy way of finding the identity of the original owner.

from what I know the pins have serial numbers and not regimental numbers.
also don't lose the pin it is a £500 fine you might have the local constabulary come around and be very cross with you!

I'm two years short of reaching my 20th year of service and I didn't even know such badges still existed nowadays! Anybody can post some pics of the new badge?

New pin style as of Apr 1, 2011:

CD/12+ years = bronze. 22+ years = silver. 32+ years = gold. For those that have the older style, you can purchase a newer one for $10:

I retired in May 2011 and was issued the older pin sans crown.

They're probably getting rid of the old stock first, plus your date is so close the the new date that I doubt any new ones were made in sufficient numbers yet.

I'm happy with my "old" style one. It was what was issued when I left.
