So I have a great shooting SKS that I have modded tactically to my liking, but can convert back to the original wood stock easily.

But I like the 81s, need to hear if the 81s are worth 1000.00, and if I will get more than my SKS in a tacticool stock, detachable mags, and so forth.

I really like the SKS but the 81s seem to be a notch above.

I am ready to buy one if I can convince myself it will out do my trusty SKS.

Thanks
Randy

stupid grenade launcher... just cause cannot use it... rear sight just to link with that
charging handle on the right
mags are not ak
no ak style side rail
etc.

I understand that if u fix all those it is gonna be another rifle ... more modern and miss its character
but overall like it much more than not

In terms of performance it wont out do ur trusty sks, end of story.

Ur better off getting a CSA VZ 58 if ur looking for a "notch" above.

Now if ur looking for an incredibly fun, collectible and unique firearm that also serves to fill that desire uv always had to own a Semi Auto AK. THEN yah! the type 81 is what u want.

The Type 81 is not “worth” $1000, the Type 81 simply costs $1000. It’s an important distinction to make.

But one of you want a fun to shoot commie bullet hose that looks like an AK47. That’s why I bought one,and I’m happy with it.

Is it worth the cost to own this particular rifle? Subjective like so many things but I can say it is worth it for me, it checks a lot of boxes and scratches the "AK" itch in a way that the sks and 858 just can't do.

Only complaint so far is the pin for the mag latch assembly keeps walking out, I have to keep pushing it back. I should just stake it at some point but haven't got around to it.

That is what the Chinese made scrap. Soon prepare the money to buy parts.

They are very comfortable to shoot. They have a softer recoil impulse then my fixed stock VZ 58.

I did a rather long winded initial impressions video about the Type 81 SA a while back.

How are the side folders to shoot?

Very easy to shoot, my grandson't new "favourite" - he has no trouble ringing the 100M gong with it either.

The sight is terrible both the rear with the bar across it and the front post you have to adjust by guessing with a sight tool instead of set clicks. The safety switch is backwards. the side folder is actually great compared to an underfolder.
