Thank you to Weatherby

I am sorry, but this has not been my experience with Weatherby or Profit River. I purchased a Wetherby Mark 5 Backcountry from Profit River on November 29th. The unfired rifle had major issues, would not feed at all, safety would not engage without major force and the rounds would not extract without significant force. The rifle was sent back to Profit River, who then sent it to Calgary Shooting Center for repair. I did not receive feedback for three weeks from either group. After 4 weeks I had to put significant pressure on Calgary Shoot Center and Profit River and just this week, six weeks after the purchase was I told a replacement rifle would be sent but I have yet to actually receive anything. In addition to having a number of conversations with both Connor at Calgary shooting Center and Chris at Profit River I also connected with Weatherby Customer Service and was told specifically that Kyle Killen would call me to discuss the issues and he never called.

Ultimately it looks like I am getting a new rifle, and I had no intention of posting a complaint, but I do not agree with the statement that "things were dealt with quickly". A new rifle should be quality checked before it is sent out, and if issues happen to arise, it should not be such a fight to get a replacement.

So, it has been a whole 6 weeks (6 weeks you purchased it, what a week to get to you, a week to get back to 'Profit'. a week to get to CSC) So, CSC would have got it maybe 3-4 weeks ago? and the Christmas holidays were in the middle of it. You are getting new rifle from Weatherby and you are complaining about their service? Wow.

Correct. I felt that was too long. It was a new unfired rifle that cost more than 3K. In my opinion, once the issue was identified (Proft River receiving the rifle) a new one should have been sent out. Note, this is not a used rifle with a warranty issue, I don't think I should be grateful for getting a replacement, a working rifle is what I paid for.

I take issue with Weatherby's service in two ways. One, their quality control was very poor, this rifle should never have been sent out, and two, when I contacted Weatherby directly I was told Kyle Killen would call me back to discuss the issues and he never did

I did not make a complaint post, however, when I did see a post praising Weatherby's "Few warranty issues and things get dealt with quickly" I thought I should comment with my experience.

Vanguard RIFLES are Just a Tad Bit Heavy for " MY " Liking so i sold ALL of mine except a 7 RM which i used the action ONLY to build my custom 416 Taylor - I Love the action's ! RJ !

They ARE heavy, I love it! I mean, there's always the Backcountry Ti if you want a featherweight supergun, but IMO the Vanguard is the perfect weight for a .300 Weatherby Magnum. I put an early 2000's Vanguard in .257 Wby into an even heavier B&C stock with a Timney trigger, MDT base/rings, and a 3-15x scope and it's sublime. Little recoil, hilarious accuracy, 100gr Noslers @ 3500 fps are basically laser beams out to 400 yards, just SO GOOD.

I would definitely use a Vanguard action for a custom gun - solid, well-built, and reliable. You could build a tack-driving range gun, lightweight hunting rifle, or a brutal big game sledgehammer and they would all work well on the Vanguard.

I have some re-scoping to do in the near term but need a 6mm CM and a .30-cal magnum, I intend the big boomer to be a PR Vanguard in .300 Wby.

Two people agree to an exchange: money for rifle.

Seller discovers that the buyer didn't give them functional money, would they wait six weeks?

This isn't a warranty issue. This is not completing the deal that was agreed to. Why should someone who bought something have to go deal with anybody else to consummate the transaction?

Edit: And to be clear, this isn't a slam on Prophet River. It is possible that they didn't have an equivalent rifle and the buyer elected to go the repair route rather than wait for another rifle to come in.

It's threads like this one that remind me why I got out of retail sales many years ago. Thanks for the bad memories. I mean, come on...I have an item that I ordered and paid for before Christmas which hasn't even arrived yet; not happy about it, but given the holiday season, Covid and all the other obstacles to fast shipping and service, I think it's a bit too early to start slamming the seller about it.

For the record, I am yet another customer of Prophet River (did you spell that "profit" because you thought you were being subtle and witty, or because you just didn't know any better?) who thinks that they are one of the finest retailers with whom I have ever dealt.

"Profit" was a typo, just the way my brain works sometimes.

It was not my intention, nor do I think I slammed Prophet River. I simply stated how my recent experience did not match their description of Weatherby being "Few warranty issues and things get dealt with quickly"

You are entitled to your opinions, but i was expecting better customer service from Weatherby.

Congrats on the recognition well deserved, Weatherby vanguard I own two, nice light and accurate rifles, one of the best in its price range.

Notice a post complaint on Warranty, well Unfortunity firearms warranty is what it is, pretty much zero sence of urgency on warranty and the fact their not on every steet corner like automotive dealers, you might as well package it up and forget about it for a while, 8 to 10 weeks is pretty standard I have found in Canada. It sucks but that's the way it is, he hand full of times I needed warranty, I have had better luck dealing direct with the USA office after giving Canada a try.

Same post on Quality controll, other unfortunity side of mail order, buyer beware, I agree the item should come in new working order, alot can happen between the shipper and customer...alot!... exterior damage can be common but, internal on a firearm raises eyebrows on how well it was function checked at the a factory and then at the shipper! I always ask the shipper to run a mag of dummy rounds and snap caps try the safety and check the screws before they shipping, hopfully that would be common sence? if they do or not I can't say, but fortunately I have not had a function issue on arrival.

Great Idea, I will be doing this next time !
