I completely agree with you... half of the time, it's just an excuse to promote an EE ad anyways.....

While I think it's pretty poor show of the OP to delete, I can't agree with this.

I have half a dozen shotguns in my safe that if I looked every day on the EE it would be the rare year that a similar gun from the same maker came up for sale. If I was to decide to sell one (or see one I might want to buy) I think one of the values of a forum like this is to be able to discuss valuations. However, the endless requests for valuations on different 870's, M12's, modern auto's etc is sheer laziness as a good survey of the market can be conducted quite easily.

As far as using a thread here as an "ad" for an EE listing, big deal. The odd time it's actually happening, who cares? To me, that's just being a busybody. Let the mods deal with it or as they say over on my favorite un-moderated site...."if you don't like it, don't read it. No one is forcing you to."
 
Like the OP I was wondering about CDN value of 1889 Remington Arms hammer gun. I guess now I know. His was grade 1 with fluid steel being lowest grade then fine twist # 2 and damascus grade 3. Switzer had a grade 2 in 12 ga. this past weekend but did not see yet what price fetched was.
Sometimes guns are priced on EE at pie in the sky guesses and would have benefited from a what's-it-worth discussion beforehand. Or at least potential buyers might benefit.
It only takes 30 seconds to see what model 21 32" duck gun prices are in US but polling the CDN market might be a useful exercise for a would-be seller.

I agree. I have several guns that would be hard to price. My 1890 Charles Daly hammer gun for example. I would have offered a much higher price to the seller if it weren't for other broad members and collectors who actually handled the gun in person. I have a great respect for all parties involved and got what I think to be a great deal on a fine old shooter.
I also have another gun which I couldn't find much info on but another member here posted a question of value and those replies led me the the correct info about my gun. In all my searching I couldn't find a similar gun and yet an almost identical one was posted on here

How ever I agree mainstream common guns are over done but special editions and sub gauges and rarer or unique guns should be able to be posted for those seeking values

I know I got a great deal when I bought my sxs 10ga. The market wasn't willing to give the man what he wanted and he refused the offer of $150 trade in at a local store. I caught him in the parking lot and bought it for $300 cash. The man had paid $1200 just a couple years earlier from Epps. Watching pricing trends on here let me know they weren't going for big dollars anymore.
 
one of the good things about these "price check" threads is it gives people a voice to point out pricing that's too high.

How many times have you seen something on the E&E and waned to say WTF is this guy thinking with his pricing ?

I've also seen where the consensus of opinion was $200-250 for a fair market value, then the gun turns up on the EE for $450
 
Sometimes wish we could reply to EE WTS posts to say "that's mental" or just a hotkey emoticon like "give your head a shake" f:P:
I imagine that would receive a lot of hate from seller though. Yeah, don't do that for my WTS ads.
