"That cartridge is Boring"

For me, the 30-06 is boring, because it's so common. It seems everyone and their dog is packing one now days, and new hunters still think it's God's chosen big game cartridge.:rolleyes:
(That belongs to the 338WM IMO) :evil:
There's nothing that hasn't been done with it, no new ground to cover.
It's just not interesting.
I like Old stuff, and by that I mean pre-30-03 even.
30-03, yes, that wasn't a typo.

For me boring equates to overused and overrated.
270 and 7mm rem mag vastly overrated won't own either again.
223,308, 30-06 overused, own all three and will likley continue to own them and use them, I just don't tell anyone.

I know how to make any cartridge less than boring. Have someone put a cartridge without powder into the mass of cartridges and head out hunting. I guarantee that every time the rifle goes bang you will give a sigh of relief. :D

If (for example) you like the 30/06, or 303 Brit, or 30/30 and are offended when it's called "boring", develop a thicker skin and ignore it.

By way of example, the 30/06 has been around 100 years, does what it does and in most cases it's good enough. If you view it simply as a tool, there's nothing wrong with it, but there's nothing particularly interesting about it either. I'd say everything's already been said about it, hence it's boring.

Human nature is such that we want to be viewed in some way as unique, and that is often exercised by the clothing, cars, guns and cartidges we choose.

I show up at Milshoots with all kinds of weird stuff, just to be interesting, but I hunt with a boring, ordinary sportered P14 in 303 Brit, because it shoots well.

The following cartridges define boring: 223,243,25/06,270,7mm mag,308,30/06,338 mag.They are boring because they are common and because most of the time they come in some very ugly/plain bolt action rifle.

I use the term "boring" as my excuse to myself to buy another rifle / gun / pistol ......once you understand what makes that rifle work and shoot .... time to move on, either with a new one or to tear it apart and do something else with it. .... everyone needs a hobby...

i'll pick boring every time out - if boring means reliability and able to get cartridges everywhere- as long as it's legal and gets the job done- that's why i don't hunt with a 223- they're illegal for big game in alberta and marginal for deer anyway-308 for almost everything, and 338 for the really big stuff- AND NO BOLT ACTIONS , period

NEW = EXCITING
OLD = BORING

I pick ......... BORING! :rockOn:

.

NOT true. COMMON=Boring.

There are plenty of oldies that are interesting, many of which pre-date the 30-06.

Imagine with me for a sec.
Setting: a group of shooters at the range.
"So, what are you shooting today?"
"Oh, it's my old '71 348 WCF"
"Really, That's different, tell me more about it!"

vs.
"So, what are you shooting today?"
"My 30-06"
"Oh." (Exit stage left)

i find my 7rem completely boring if you call pushing a 100gr pill at 4000 fps
i use it because i know how it shoots and because if i pull the trigger it goes bang. Plus im to young to start building custom guns
