The 10 rounds @ 300 yards cgn online challenge.

J996 - Thanks for your response.

The other issue I was trying to avoid was the necessity of a rangefinder to setup at a closer distance. 84 feet between 300m and 300yd is over 3 tape lengths if I take a standard measuring tape and the range is already covered in snow. The intent of listed group sizes seems to be MOA, 2/3MOA and 1/3MOA - if that sounds funny, you could just use MOA, 1/2 and 1/4. I would suggest changing the thread title if MOA measurements are not going to be used (3" 10rds @ 300yards Challenge).

Maybe metric shooters could scale down their group sizes mathematically to 300yards? You could ask posters to report their result in MOA - many have already done so anyway.

Food for thought - thanks for your consideration.

1moa is 1.05 inch right.
So if that's the deal then people just need to switch the max from 3 inches to 3.15 max.
Or am I missing something.

So does this have to be shot at a legit range,or can it be done on a private shooting range.
And should I take pics from shooting position to target or is this on the honour system completely?
Cool idea.

I can be shot anywhere. No requirement to show the shooting position. This is just for fun and cheating cannot be enforced on the internet. If anyone were to cheat they would only be cheating themselves.

Ok I will take moa out of the title.

With regard to measuring in the snow without a rangefinder or long enough tape measure you can pace back from 300 meters to 275 meters (300 yards). 25 meters is equal to 32.8 paces (steps). One pace is equal to 2.5 feet or 30 inches.

A 32 step march should get you pretty close.

I appreciate the nice comments but to be honest its more about load development and having the equipment that will shoot tiny groups. I know that most of you would get very similar results if not better with my rifle.
I do my load development in the evenings with practicality zero wind, not everyone lives close enough to a range that they can do this but without perfect conditions and
allot of load development you just really never know what to blame.

What really thrills me about these results is what a pita it is to develop that cartridge, it stars off as a 7x57 necked down to .277 neck turned, annealed and then acklyized:) Its probably almost
as accurate as my 27-08AI
No magic in calibers they are just a number, but the bullets, that's another story:)

Got out today to shoot another challenge target with my V-Max loads. Brought the target stand up to 300 yards this time. Very nearly joined the sub-2" club, if not for one high shot that I undoubtedly messed up.

Nice shooting man, i'll post it up tonight.

Thanks! :) This is a fun challenge and coincides well with long(er) range practice. It's a nice change from shooting for groups at 100m and gives me more data about my loads.

I hope to see the list grow over the winter; this is a great opportunity to get out and shoot!

Conditions: Light flurries, -2C, feels like -8C; Wind: 15km/hr, Gust wind: 25km/hr
Calibre: 284 Shehane
Rifle: Defiant Tactical action / Manners MSC-4TA stock with the mini chassis / 28" Krieger / 180gr. Berger Hybrid
Position: Prone - SEB NEO front rest
Distance: 300 yards
Group size: 10 shots: 1.740" outside to outside - .284" = 1.456"

I tried to my best to read the wind and shot consistency.

In the video, the sound was an old tractor idling beside me.

I just spun a new Shilen Select Match SS prefit barrel onto my Savage Model 12 F/TR in .223 Wylde (thanks to Jerry @ Mystic Precision). I've done no load development for it, and am shooting rounds made up for the old barrel/chamber. Nevertheless, I thought I'd have a go at 300 meters this morning, and all things considered, it went pretty well. Conditions were COLD (for us Wet Coasters) at +1 degrees, with little to no wind and light snow falling. I was shivering by the time I got through the 10 round string.

I just barely made it under 3", and will certainly re-visit this little challenge once I've fine tuned a load for the new barrel!!!

Qball ... Can't wait to shoot in some of that "cold" above 0 weather:). Trouble is, no sun for months is depressing! Good on you for getting out.

Having grown up in the Interior of BC, I do (vaguely) remember what 'real' winter is like - and I have no desire to return to it! A 20 minute drive from my front door gets me to as much snow as I want to play in, and as dreary as the gray, drizzly winter can be here, I don't ever have to shovel the rain off my driveway :)

Just squeaked this one in.......the only factory barrelled rifled in the barn.
Tikka T-3 tactical in 308 win with the 24 inch tube and the coretac version of the tikka/sako muzzle brake.
Off a bench with front rest and rear bag

Why isn't this challenge in moa? Some of us have target stands at 300m.

It's been gone over before already. This is a 'just for fun' contest on the internet. If anyone wanted to they could shoot it at 50m and no one would ever know or care. The only purpose is to get out and shoot.
