The 10 rounds @ 300 yards cgn online challenge.

Nice shooting. Results updated in new section (post #3). I can no longer edit the original. Cheers, J.

Is this challenge still going? I only saw it for the first time last night, figured I'd give it a go.

Shot it today after work, took 3 or 4 warmup/sighter shots and got to it.

300 yds, rifle is a Rem 700 with a Benchmark 24" barrel in .223 in a McMillan a5. Shooting 69 gr SMK with a Bushnell Match Pro, Harris bipod and a rear squeeze bag, I got a 1.425" before subtraction so a final measurement of 1.205". Had to allow .5 mil for the cross wind.20240129_164800.jpg20240129_164817.jpg20240129_164733.jpg20240129_164723.jpg

I swapped a Weaver T36 on this rifle today to see if I could get some better results with a finer reticle (was trying to cheat a bit).

No dice. It was gusty on my range and my targets were moving too much with the wind. Was still good to get out and shoot though. Just went over 100 rds through this new barrel and can't complain about the results. Zeroed it despite the wind and poa was predictable. I swapped out my factory Fed 69 gr smk for Sierra-branded ammo and found zero difference.

If you are lazy like me, Cabelas has the Sierra brand 69 gr on clearance right now.

Wow, 1.4 inches at 300 yards!?! I would say that’s really impressive and your scope seems fine. Haha
Other shooters here are much better than me. I credit the barrel and the smith that put it together for me. Makes me feel like I know what I'm doing. Especially since I haven't done any hand loading, just using ammo I've bought from cabelas.

Nice shooting liberty, results updated.

I can edit the original post again with the website upgrade, will amalgamate the post 2022 results with the rest soon.

We were out burning off some leftover ammo this afternoon. Around zero, clear skies and I’m guessing 4-6 mph winds and judging by the couple shots to the right there was the odd gust. We were shooting 300metres so it looks like I’m in the under 2” group.

Bustercluck, what calibre is being used?

With regard to meters vs yards vs moa, we had that discussion years ago. The easy answer is inches & yards is easier to run and organize than everyone converting up or down to moa from whichever distance they shot from.

The direction is to shoot this challenge at 300 yards and the group size gets measured in inches. If your range is 300 meters you can set up at 275 meters if you like, but lots of guys have shot this at 300 meters.

223 remington.

That makes sense about the moa vs inches thing. I’m going to tweak a few reloading things and see if I can get that down under an inch on a calm day.

Here’s a pic. Almost all canadian build.
