The 22 Creedmoor

I'm about 550 rounds into mine over 3 years. Once my rifle can't average sub moa at 500 yards, it'll be rebarreled. I'll keep this thread updated on things that happen, good or bad. Honestly I expect it to last 1500-2000 rounds

Ha! The next range trip things went south, back to back 5 shot groups just under 2moa...speeds increasing, 115 fps ES on 10 rounds. Round count 575 , and about 30 rounds since my last cleaning
I cleaned it with my typical routine, and borrowed a bore scope. It's pretty ugly in there! :onCrack:- lots of carbon! 3 hours of trying this and that, I made some headway with CLR and bronze brushing / wrapping a CLR soaked patch around a worn brush and work it back and forth a lot. It wasn't all gone, but the carbon was way down over before.

Took it out and first 3 shot group was 0.7moa, next 3 averaged 0.59moa (80gr ELDm / RL26 in virgin Peterson brass) and speeds about 55 fps below what they were before. I shot four more groups with other ammo I had, avg group was 0.7moa - what a relief!

I took it home and cleaned with 3 wet patches of CarbOut and followed with about six dry patches to remove all the solvent. I took it out yesterday and shot four groups to assess any POI shift from the light cleaning. I was happy, POI from first group was within 0.25moa of the next 3 groups. Average group size yesterday 0.67moa with the 80gr ELDm load, and speeds were still down a bit - which is a good thing

Moving forward I think I'll run the carbout solvent through it more frequently to try and stay ahead of any excessive carbon buildup issues.

Alliant powders leave a lot of black in the barrel ime. With that charge of powder in a 22cal size bore you probably have to clean more compared to a bigger caliber.

Haven't checked this thread in awhile. That Tikka has turned out really nice! That Manners is a super nice upgrade.

Based on our experience with the 6CM, I'd be very surprised if you see 2000 rounds with the 22CM. Standards vary of course, but 1500 has been pushing it with the 6. Our barrels get run hot sometimes tho. 10-12 shot strings in 90-120 seconds will do that. Haha. Really looking forward to your experience with this barrel!

Yeah will see how it goes! I usually fire only a few groups per trip to the range, so it doesn't heat up too much. I will keep a closer eye on bore condition and cleaning moving forward. I think I'll retire the barrel when it will no longer average 1moa at 300 yards with any load.

One round closer to being worn out

Fur damage is all to do with the BULLET used mostly - NOT the Caliber or cartridge . AND I've really never found a bullet that is LEGAL to use that doe's not make a Big exit hole YET ! RJ

A Sierra 32gr. out of a 204 Ruger running around 4000fps go in a coyote and don't come out. Not a 22 cal. for sure but very little damage in my experience, 7 or 8 coyotes.
