The .270 Win club, are you in?

Tikka T3 laminated stainless in .270 has been a dynamite deer rifle for me for the last 7 seasons. Loaded with Federal Fusion 130gr, it brings home dinner every November.

Have the twin ,just passed it over to my new son in law want him to start with "something decent" :)

They were quite a bit cheaper when I bought mine (basically $1k even), and I was on a budget (now they're almost $1400 for the T3X version). That said, there's nothing else I feel I need in a deer rifle. I've never had any kind of malfunction, it feeds flawlessly (never a single misfeed), and it's been dead-nuts accurate since it came out of the box. It's no heirloom, but a great all around rifle that I'll probably have forever.

PS - very kind of you to pass that along to your SIL

I'm in! Bought my first one three years ago from Prophet River. After seeing how it performs I wonder why I waited so long?

I came to the same conclusion. I mainly hunt deer but wouldn't turn an elk or moose hunt down if the opportunity arises. I prefer a slim trim light weight rifle and the 270 strikes a perfect balance between velocity, trajectory and recoil imo.

270 win my favourite of all the 20th century cartridges. Have had a few, I’m out currently, sold a beautiful blaser k95 recently that took me out of the club. The 270 win is still a modern performer and solid 600 yard bad boy and recoil at the threshold for lightweight sheep rifles that can go long imo. Migrated to the 6.5 Grendel and no sign of slowing down. Always praise the .270 win...jack O’Connor’s cartridge. It served me well.

My main deer rifle this year is a 270 in a Husqvarna deluxe, beautiful rifle, probably wont part with it, if I was buying new I would probably get a 6.5 or a 7-08 but I never found one in a Husky deluxe.

Have to change my "wanna be" status to "going to be shortly" status. Just scored a Ruger M77 mark 1 .270 on the EE. Its an itch I wanted to scratch for a long time !! I will be topping it with my trusty Leupold Vx1 2-7x33 and starting loading for it as soon as I get it home.

Should be a handy rifle with that scope!

Hope you enjoy it.

Bought a winchester model 70 in .270 to replace a Parker Hale .270 i sold to a good friend, regreted it instantly but it was for a buddy. Anyway, bought the .270 and realized previous owner has shortened the lengh of pull , so i replaced the stock with a Boyds thumbhole laminated. She is a thing of beauty and a tackdriver with 140 grain Nosler partition rounds.

My Dad passed away last year and when I went and collected his guns I was pretty sure about what I would see.
I don't recall him ever cleaning anything much less his guns. The .270 was so gunked up i couldn't even get the bolt back in it.
After stripping all of the guns down and soaking every little part in Eds Red I cleaned, oiled and put them all back together.

This .270 led a rough life my friends, it spent alot of years on a fishing boat, shot deer, moose and even the odd shark. There isn't much bluing left on it and the 4x scope is probably older than me. The bore looks ok but the crown seems to be a bit banged up. I'm not sure what I want to do with it as I have alot if rifles and I don't reload for .270 anyhow. The rifle deserves to be cerracoated or somthing but it is kind of a nostalgia piece the way it is. I'm thinking to myself that to make it a worthwhile hunting rifle I need it finished, maybe a new stock, pillar bed it, new optics etc.

So I went to the range a couple days ago to verify my 7mag hunting rifle and I drag this .270 along. Other than the deep clean on it I haven't changed a thing. I have a few boxes of assorted ammo for it between what I had on hand and what my Dad had for it. (I know what your thinking, Sleeper didn't own a .270 why does he have ammo "kicking" around? These are just some of the subtle mysteries gun nuts have going on my friends!)
After checking the 7mag I set up the .270 @ 100, now I don't expect much but Pa always got his deer so I was confident I could at least get it on target at 100 without any other screwing around.

Yup, first shot was low and left ... second shot hmm I'm not sure, damn I should have brought the spotting scope but let me tell you my friends that these days going to the range feels like I'm a settler in a wagon train full of everything I own traveling across the prairies with all the stuff I "need" to bring. I try to pare it down but every time I do i need that somthing I left. ( honestly some times these days its my ammo or the gun itself )
Anyway the third shot lands by the first shot as does the 4th and 5th.

I walk down range to check it out and there is a nice 1 1/2 group.
4 more groups with 4 different loads reveal similar results between one and two inches! One load is pretty bang on an inch! That damn Jack O'Connor anyhow!

This isn't a Model 70 but pretty close in an old Husqvarna thats beat up and been around the block.

I guess I'll just keep it as it is. Maybe even take a deer with it some time.
