the 270 win is ideal for hunting FOR ME, but I'm scared of coming across a Grizzly..

... and Jack (O'Connor) killed his only 2 Grizzlies (as far as I could find out) with the 270.

The only O'Connor work I have is big game animals of North america, in it he writes "As I count up, I can remember shooting eight grizzlies, helping to shoot two, and being in on the death of two more. I have shot or helped to shoot eight with a. 30/06, one with a. 270 and one with a. 300 Weatherby magnum.... Both of the allied Alaska brown bears I have killed were taken with a. 375 magnum."

So apparently JOC did not feel very confident in the 270.
 
That would be a great choice, and the most common sense approach, but unfortunately this is Canada and common sense is often illegal.

:D Can you describe this "Drop Bear" please? Inquiring minds want to know.

I havnt had a run in with a 'Droppy' myself although they are definatley furry, big claws on front an rear legs with some quite handy teeth!
Oh man. Not the drop bear! When I was in Oz I was watching my back everywhere. They may be cute, but theyre viscious.

Oh man Im glad you were very aware of the real dangers out there! Great to hear you came an checked out this sometimes nice part of the World!
They say the best Defence for Drop bears, is your good mate or whoever you happen to be walking with when one Attacks!!
