The 30-30 club, are you in?

Great rifle, but watch you don't loose the extractor.

Too true, it just sits in the bolt body. Anyway, I didn't get it from TradeEx, but maybe one of the previous owners did. Don't worry, if it is like all my other guns, I'll get tired of it, sell it, then kick my own a%$ for selling it, "best rifle I ever had, one-hole groups, blah, blah." Anyway, I'll be trying it out on the weekend at the in-laws' farm. Will post pics, good, bad, or otherwise.

Try Irv at Western Gun Parts in Edmonton, I think they carry these at least from time to time. The gun shop I do some work for just got 2 in for repairs in the last 2 days. One just needed a new scope and mount, they other needs the same plus a whole new bolt! Ouch! Neat gun, they shoot great.

They do indeed need a side-mount. I know they carry the mounts there as well, as we just bought one from them.

OK, I just came back from shooting the Husky 35 and . . . it doesn't like long bullets. Yup, it's true, it won't handle long spitzers. I guess I should have guessed that, but I figured it was worth a try. I tried 3 different brands of 180's, and one kind of 180 cast, but they all key-holed at 100 yards. I don't think the cast were too long, but they were plain-base and going very slowly, I believe too slowly for the twist rate. I'm guessing that either the gun was made for the standard 170 grain flatpoints, or it was made for 125's for those cute little roe deer and whatnot they have over there. I also wasted far too much ammo chasing the dovetailed sights around, going too far one way, then too far back the other way - grrrr! Anyway, everything on the gun itself worked flawlessly, I really love the trigger, and the balance on this little 6.5 lb. gun is so nice to hold! The targets weren't worth posting, due to the keyholing, and I was so mad I threw them away. If I can find some 125's around, I may give them a try, or a little factory 170 FP's, we'll see.

proud new member of the 30-30 club here:D I picked up a little Savage 340B myself. I'll be heading out to the range on Saturday to try it out with some factory ammo.

To the guy asking about magazines, Brownells has them. I'm going to pick up a couple too.

Marlin 30AS
Father's rifle. I use it now while he uses a 30-06 semi auto that is borrowed.

Bolt action 30-30s are neat.

Yep, $31 US, plus 5% exchange, plus $15 shipping plus GST, plus PST, plus $5 brokerage = $59 OUCH!

But, at least you'll have a spare. The rifle's not much good without one.

Ted

I bought my first gun when I was 16 yrs old a Marlin 336 30-30. Still own it and will never sell it. It is worth more now than when I fiest bought it. That was a few years ago (29)

Right on, is that the one that was in the EE? Looked nice.

The only issue I have with mine (And I'm hoping a new magazine will solve) is the rifle seems to have difficulty feeding the second round properly. Only the second round, it feeds with the bullet nose too high and gets hung up. It’s still a sweet little gun.

Yup it was in the EE a few days ago, I saw it listed there for 150 bucks and jumped on it. Its in great shape, I'm going to work on up some spitzers loads with it after I get nice collection of brass.
