The 30-30 club, are you in?

Hey everyone,

Thanks for the feed back on this project of mine. I really appreciate it. Since the last time, I've slimmed the butt stock down even more, so the centre of balance is now just under the rear sight. The balance feels great, and if anything even a little lighter:

I don't mind not having the foregrip at all. I purposely removed it in order to lighten the rifle. I got the idea for this project from a rifle I wanted to buy in the 80's called a "Bronco." It was a wired framed single shot .22 survival rifle. Since this 30/30 has 6 shots, I'm 1 up on the ammo department!...

I continually shot 2 boxes of ammo through the rifle to see how hot it would get, and to me, it was not a problem at all. I was still able to hold the rifle in front of the receiver area with no problems. But then, I' ve been known to take steaming hot Dim Sum steamer trays out of a wok with my bare hands on a regular basis... ;) On the other hand, I always wear a pair of leathers when I'm out in the rough or shooting a lever gun. Even the original Henry's did not have a wood foregrip.

Mean while, I've just picked up another Winchester that had been accidentally left out in the weather. It had a good coat of rust on the outside, but quite decent on the inside. I've cleaned and oiled it now, and with exception of the receiver, everything turned out great.

I am starting to like the worn patina finish on the receiver, and am very tempted not to have it re-blued. It gives it that warm "lived in feeling" like an old country home.

The big decision right now is whether or not to give it the "large loop" treatment like the rest of my levers?...

Add one more to the list, I've had too many to count over the years. Did my first double (two 8 point bucks at the same time) with an iron sighted M94trapper.

I like the look of the large loop levers.....do it

Where do you get your large loop levers from, I wouldn't mind having one as well??

Hi there freddyfour!

Thanks for the feedback! Sorry I haven't had a chance to check in at Gunnutz the last little while due to commitments at work. (It's been st*nkin busy...)

Looks like I will be spending some shop time this week installing a lever! :)

With regards to your request, here is where I've been getting the levers:

Yes! They deliver right to my door! :)

There are 2 versions: Pre, or Post 64. There are a number of sites around that you can go to in order to identify the vintage of your rifle.

Hope this helps!

Ya gotta have a 30-30

I'm pretty much a bolt action and single shot guy but you've got to own a 30-30. Mine's a Winchester 94 made in 1952. 95%, Williams FP and a trigger that would shame most bolt rifles. No rifle ever carried nicer than a light Winchester of Marlin lever gun.

had a model 94 years ago, just recently shot a Savage 340 in 30-30 really liked that rifle . would like to have another 30-30 probablya 336

Just bought myself a Marlin 1894 in .44 mag just to satisfy my lever itch. I chose the .44 because I already reload for it, and It can still put down a deer within 100m.

Thanks to Wild-Wild-West for the mag tube clamp on sling swivel. I will enjoy this one for quite sometime, and camping has just got alot more exciting. No more lugging around the scoped bolt action .308.

Now about that 30-30. I see Epps is selling the Marlin 336's for under $550 I may have a decision to make in the near future. I was gonna buy a Savage/Stevens 200 .270 for a hunting rifle but I might just go with that Marlin.

oh yeah, had a 30-30 since forever, pre '64 94, and have two 1949's now, had a Savage 340 and an H&R 157 BB full wood and a post '64 94. Will always have the 94 30-30 and they get used.

336bl

I am anxiously awaiting 336BL, with 18 inch barrel and laminate stock. Has it made its appearance in Canada? I do see Elwood Ellps 1895SBL and GBL but they are in 45-70. I want one that looks like that but in 30-30. I might even sell my 336C to get one of these.
