The 760/7600 Club

I just purchased a 7600 in .308 and I have a beater 760 in 30-06 on the way. Barrel chop and duracoat sounds like a plan.
20" is about right on those. I had my Whelen cut back to 20". It's perfect! The 18.5" Carbines are a bit choppy and loud to shoot, so you expect that when cutting shorter.

I wouldn't bother with the Duracoat as the smooth finish on those 760/7600 is not prone to rust. I've never had that problem with any of the ones I've owned.

a folder makes it real easy to stow . I gotta say that this rifle sure is handy and the 18.5 barrel for me is a good barrel length anything longer is a pain in thick stuff or on a MC.

A 16" trapper model would be even handier especially in a .338 federal.

Hummm 20 inch? I was thinking of going to 19". The right side of the receiver had the a previous owners SIN number free-hand engraved on it (BIG). I would like to buff it out & Duracoat (or maybe just parkerize). I was also thinking of putting a peep sight on it. Maybe a ghost-ring like the 7600P? Thoughts?

Williams makes a peep sight (WGRS) that goes on the top of the reciever using the existing scope base holes. They work well enough with friction set screws.

Williams also makes another FP sight that require two holes drilled on the side of the reciever. This sight would be about the best out there as it is more rugged and has micrometer settings.

I have used both. The FP is the best of the two.

if its the montecarlo stock then you will most likley have a tough time seeing through them . The police rifle has no comb so you can actually use open sights.

mine is the 30-06 carbine with the choat folder and the recoil or noise is not a problem at all. In fact i would describe it as a pleasure to shoot and fast to aqquire and follow up. The fairly straight stock of folder does a good job of reducing barrel flip

I have a 7600 weathermaster in .30-06 and a 760 in .243. Both easily shoot moa. My goal is to find a 35 whelen someday as well as a 308 or .30-06 carbine. Can't think of a better all around gun. My wife clobbered a huge bull moose with the weathermaster last year.

Just picked up another 7600 today!! Purchased a 30-06 carbine synthetic from a friend.Has a 2-7 Bushnell scope mounted and comes with 4 magazines and all of his handloads and factory ammo.I know this gun and it doesn't have more than 200 rounds down the pipe. Hope to get it out for a moose or deer hunt this year.
Cheers Bac4
