Well, the tapping worked - only because the tube had lightly rusted in place to the forearm. :rolleyes: :mad:

I'm shouldn't be surprised as it got soaked (for days) on a caribou hunt years ago and I never thought about taking the fore-end off to, first dry things out and second, oil the tube.

Well my fingers are crossed because I'm going to give a stab at refinshing the fore-end and stock to get rid of the swelling in the wood on the butt of stock caused by the same rains. Lots of checkering to work around, I gotta go find some old toothbrushes......
 
I have a 760 in 35 Rem., one in .308 Win., and a 7600 in 35 Whelan. My son has two 7600's. A rifle in 30-06 and a carbine in 35 Rem. NEVER in my life have I had a deer alerted in any way, shape, or form from a rattle. The only time it rattles is shucking the empty. By then it's too late for the deer!!!!R:d:R:d:R:d:

Nice set-up, should make a good everything killer. Looks similar to my 35 Whelen I have with the scope set-up etc. Let us know how it shoots. I know any 760/7600 I have shot has been around a 1-1.5" groups at 100yds.
 
1986 76 Sportsman in 30-06.Minute of deer accurate @300+yards on two seperate occassions,only two times I've ever attempted to shoot at deer that far,bang-flop heart shots on both holding x-hairs level with spine.Truckloads of deer,1/2 dozen moose,2 bears,several coyotes and foxes,a couple coons,one fisher,one bobcat,and a sack fulla partridge have had their heads removed by this rifle in past 23 years.

I'll hop on the bandwagon - 1999 7600 in .30-06. First Centerfire rifle I owned that shot worth a damn - and passed down from my Dad. Its new(ish) and the only action its ever seen has been on the range, but I'll not part with it unless its to hand it down to my own kids. In the meantime I've got big plans for this fellow, though I've got to say I wish it was in .308...

I have a couple. This is my 7600 in 06. I also have a 760 in 300 Savage that never sees the light of day. Might be able to sell it now if these pics work.

After shooting my new .338F, I've decided that the synthetic does have too much drop for a scope, so I stripped and refinished the original stock with Tru-oil. Still undecided if I like the beaver-tail forend on it though...

I also picked up a newer motne carlo stock set from a 7600, that I may shave the comb down on to make it a straight comb.
