FWIW, the AK-47 in 7.62 is still widely issued to some russian troops depending on alot of factors. True, the 5.45mm is the main issue caliber in the Russian army, but the 7.62 is still around.
Also, I dispute the fact that "most" of Russia's allies have also switched to 5.45mm. In fact, I'd go so far as to say most have NOT. There are still more AK's in the world shooting 7.62 than anything else.
