ThE Albanian SKS

speaking about AK look-alike charging handle .... did you know of any one that has changed the charging handle of a VZ/VZ858 to look like an AK?

Pics? Details? what was the cost like?

Did this back in 04 when there were still some around. Started the ball rolling in October and it came the next April.

In the US these carbines were going for $349.00 at the time, having already began to appreciate. Was closer to $600.00 CA by the time everybody got a piece in the supply chain.

I'll post some pics at some point.

Never seen one, but I did get a carrier for my SKS-D :D
It took FOREVER to drill through when I added a hold open.

For those who are SKS ignorant could you please tell me why the Albanian variation is so cherished. Is it merely due to its rarity or does it have to do with fit and finish?

for me, i like it cos its unusual and uncommon . unusual in terms of the front hand guard are extra long and also for its AK style cocking handle so if i were to get a carrier for my "D" then its feel like shooting an AK.

i would love to shoot an AK.

I have had one here in the U.S. for several years. It came from Aim Surplus, via a dealer friend of mine. I paid 100$ for it.
It is an all matching 78 production. The stock is a bit on the rough side though. I have a Rus,Chinese, and Yugo SKS but, I like the Alby best of all. The action is very smooth and it seems a bit more accurate then my other SKS. The machining is very well done.I also like the extended stock and upper hand guard. Still not sure why the magazine has a different shape. I have a thing for AKs,but the SKS rifles are so well made, they will be handed down from generation to generation.
I have been looking for a Romy, but the right one has not shown up yet.

Very nice collection yourself!
I just picked up a red glass jungle stock for my Chinese. Took me awhile to find one for a blade bayonet.

Sweet D there! Also love that Rus laminate on the refurb!
